Skye Camanachd B U14 won the Scottish Hydro Development Shield with an 8-3 win over Milngavie & Bearsden U14 at the Bught Park, Inverness on Saturday 18 September 2010.
Skye took an early advantage in the match with 2 goals from Will Cowie. Both were high balls from the middle of what was a very short pitch.
Skye went 3-0 up following a great 20 yard strike from Angie Grant.
Goal number 4 was a rebound from a Will Cowie shot which was well tucked away by Iain MacLeod before Cowie completed his hat-trick to make it 5-0.
Milngavie & Bearsden had plenty opportunities in the first half but they were denied by some good goalkeeping by Iain P MacKenzie and some tenacious defending from Stevie MacKinnon. Skye were indeed fortunate to go in at the break with a 5-0 advantage.
When Will Cowie scored shortly after the restart it looked to be all over as a contest.
However Milngavie & Bearsden had other ideas and stormed back into the match with 3 goals from Calum McLay, Calum Forsyth and a Cameron Dyver penalty which gave MacKenzie little chance, reducing the deficit to 6-3.
It was Skye who went on to seal victory and revenge for last year’s defeat in the final against the same side, when James Pringle played in Primary 7 pupil John Gillies to score his first goal in his first game for Skye Camanachd.
Andrew Grant finished with a low drive into the corner of the net, just on the final whistle to make it 8-3.
This was a good all round team performance in which Lorna MacRae and Caitlin Maclean made a telling contribution. They were well supported by Iain P MacKenzie in goal, James Pringle, Shaun Henderson and John Gillies. It was also good to see Stevie MacKinnon and Andrew Grant back playing shinty after time away doing other things.
Stevie Mackinnon played a captain's role and was delighted to pick up the Development Trophy after the previous year’s disappointment.
