Skye Referee Looks Forward To Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final. | |
17 September 2010 Skye shinty referee John MacLeod is looking forward to his goal judge appearance at the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final on Saturday 18 September 2010. MacLeod will be a goal judge at the final between Kingussie and Fort William and he will referee the MacMaster Cup Final earlier in the day between Kinlochshiel U14 and Fort William U14. Speaking on Cuillin FM’s breakfast show, MacLeod said, “It’s a privilege to be asked to officiate in the Camanachd Cup Final and I’m very pleased. I’ll also be refereeing the MacMaster Final earlier in the day and it’s a national final so you always want to referee these games.” Looking forward to the clash between Kingussie and Fort William, MacLeod said, “Everyone hopes it will be a good, competitive match unlike the final in 2007 final between the same sides which was marred by the treatment Ronald Ross received. Let’s hope it’s a good final and the players are allowed to play because everyone wants to see the skillful players.” “When you start playing shinty, you dream of a Camanachd Cup medal. That wasn’t to be for me but I have the next best thing being one of the officials.” When presenter Drew Millar playfully suggested that MacLeod would want to referee a Camanachd Cup Final ahead of “Skye’s answer to John Sloggie” (referee John Angus Gillies), MacLeod was complimentary of his colleague. “You work your way up, refereeing every Saturday and you hope that your performances are recognised. John Angus has been unfortunate with his injury this season. He was getting good reports and I’m sure he would have been awarded one of the finals this year.” It’s an early start for MacLeod who heads for Inverness at 8am on Saturday morning and he will attend a meeting with referee Billy Wotherspoon and the other officials ahead of the game. The Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final at the Bught Park, Inverness throws up at 2.20pm. Admission for a fantastic day’s shinty is £10 and £5 for concessions. The final will also be shown live on BBC2 Scotland where coverage starts at 2pm. Iain Anderson and Hugh Dan MacLennan are the match commentators. |
