Skye Camanachd 1 Caberfeidh 1. | |
14 September 2010 A second half Danny Morrison strike ensured Skye Camanachd and Caberfeidh shared the points for the second time this season in Marine Harvest North Division 1 at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 11 September 2010. Skye Camanachd manager Aonghas MacDonald made 4 changes to his starting line-up following the win over Lochcarron last weekend. Michael Nicolson came into goal as Jamie Gannon was unavailable. Shockie MacLennan failed a late fitness test so Kerr Gibb started at buckshee back with Gilleasbuig MacDonald at wing centre. Stewart Grant started on the other wing in place of Neil MacVicar whilst Jordan Murchison made his first start in attack in place of Iain Morrison. Kenny Campbell was also back in the squad and he was joined on the bench by Shaun Hedley, Allan MacKinnon and Aonghas MacDonald. Caberfeidh were missing forwards Ally MacLennan and Kevin Bartlett so second team manager Archie Ritchie started at full forward with manager Robbie Taylor naming himself as third substitute. Caberfeidh started the game the hungrier and they took the lead after 6 minutes when Martin MacDonald was allowed enough space to take the ball down from a corner on the right and he rifled a shot into the net. The visitors almost doubled their advantage on 13 minutes when Fraser MacGregor shot over the bar from a corner on the left. Cabers continued to press and Archie Ritchie and Stewart Krzyzanowski combined a couple of minutes later but Skye keeper Michael Nicolson raced from goal to clear the danger. Caberfeidh had the ball in the net on 20 minutes but the effort was ruled out by referee Graham Irving as the goal judge had already flagged for offside. Skye created a scoring opportunity on 23 minutes when Danny Morrison played the ball wide left to Iain Nicolson who crossed to Jordan Murchison. The youngster turned his marker before sending a back-hand shot just wide of target. Alan Palmer crossed to Danny Morrison on 26 minutes but Morrison’s shot drifted wide of goal. Skye were starting to gain some rhythm and a minute later Jordan Murchison crossed high from the left and Alan Palmer knocked the ball goal-wards above his head but Cabers keeper DJ Mellis parried his effort and attempted to clear the danger. However Palmer chased the loose ball and his turn and shot went through the keeper’s legs and narrowly past his left post. Danny Morrison and Iain Nicolson linked up to set up Jordan Murchison on 39 minutes. His shot was blocked and Alan Palmer put the rebound wide. The last chance of the first half fell to Caberfeidh. Archie Ritchie found space in front of goal but Michael Nicolson made a brilliant save with his hand from Ritchie’s point blank effort. The Castle Leod side also created the first chance of the second half when the Skye defence failed to clear a free hit but Lee Nicol shot over the bar from just inside the D when it looked easier to score. Ian McColl shot from distance on 50 minutes but Michael Nicolson stopped the ball with his legs and comfortably cleared the danger. Skye Camanachd player / manager Aonghas MacDonald replaced Jordan Murchison on 52 minutes. Skye levelled on 59 minute with a great goal from Danny Morrison. Stewart Grant played the ball forward from midfield to Aonghas MacDonald. The substitute neatly played in Danny Morrison and he expertly lifted the ball over Mellis’ left shoulder to make it 1-1. An Alan Palmer shot was blocked on 64 minutes and Aonghas MacDonald was just inches away from the rebound. Aonghas MacDonald set up Danny Morrison 5 minutes later but Mellis saved with his foot at the expense of a corner. Alan Palmer put Gilleasbuig MacDonald’s corner from the right just the wrong side of the post. Caberfeidh introduced Kirk Taylor in place of Archie Ritchie on 70 minutes. A couple of minutes later he was put clean through on goal but he knocked the ball past the post with Michael Nicolson spreading himself to guard his goal. Skye took Kenny Campbell on in place of Stewart Grant in the centre line. Heavy rain started to fall on the Pairc nan Laoch pitch which made things difficult for both sides. Shaun Hedley came on in place of Iain Nicolson who was still showing the effects of an ankle injury picked up in the previous week’s game against Lochcarron. Hedley went to wing centre with Kenny Campbell pushing into the attack. Skye finished the game on the attack but the conditions were deteriorating by the minute, making it very difficult to hit the ball cleanly. Skye’s final home league game finished in disappointment and the Islanders final match in the league will be against Strathglass at Cannich on 25 September 2010.
