Skye Camanachd Development Squad Set For Milngavie & Bearsden Rematch. | |
13 September 2010 Skye Camanachd B U14 youth coach Willie Cowie has named a 12 man squad for the Scottish Hydro Development Final against Milngavie & Bearsden U14 at the Bught Park, Inverness on Saturday 18 September 2010. This is a repeat of the 2009 Final which was won by the Glasgow side. Skye Camanachd B U14 won through to the final beating Uist Camanachd U14 in the Local League before qualifying ahead of Strathglass U14 and Kinlochbervie U14 in the North Finals. Skye Camanachd B from; 1. Iain Patrick MacKenzie - Portree Primary School goalkeeper for the last couple of years and a new face in the development team. Very tidy in goals and can pull off some spectacular saves. Son of the famous Skye Camanachd 1990 Camanachd Cup winning goalkeeper John 'Bodach' MacKenzie. 2. Stevie MacKinnon - Has just come back to shinty after taking a year out to concentrate on his other great love of music. A drummer in a rock band when he's not tenaciously tackling opposition forwards. 3. Jack Latton - A very quick player who has the potential to be an excellent shinty player. Defensive player and one of the best hitters in the team. 4. Shaun Henderson - Only started playing shinty a couple of years ago and has done well to find a place in the side. Enjoys tackling and works hard for the team. 5. Lorna MacRae - Very athletic and gets about the pitch with ease. An important player for this side and for Portree High School. A good hitter who enjoys all sports. 6. Will Cowie - Just turned 13 so has another year at this level. Excellent hitter of the ball who will hope to boss the midfield area. Can also score goals when required and shows great determination. Another player with an obvious family link to Skye’s 1990 Camanachd Cup winning side. 7. Andrew Grant - Another player that has just come back to shinty after a year out. Andrew also trains and plays for Ross County but has come back to shinty in recent weeks. Another good hitter who can also score some spectacular goals. 8. Caitlin MacLean - Player of the Year for Portree Primary School team which is a fine achievement. Don't be deceived by her size for she's a tough 'wee cookie'. Very tidy player who will score a goal if given half a chance. Niece of Skye Camanachd 1990 Camanachd Cup winning captain Caley MacLean. 9. Angie Grant - Seems to have been around for a long time but is still only 13. Good tackler who shows some great skills on the ball. Loves scoring goals so watch him go in the final. 10. Iain MacLeod - Will be back again next year with the U14 team. Plays mostly in goals but has the chance to play outfield in this side. Clever player who has good skills and a tremendous shot. His Dad John MacLeod will referee the 2010 MacMaster Cup Final and is a goal judge at the 2010 Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final. 11. James Pringle - Also from the highly successful Portree Primary School team which has won many prizes in recent seasons. Excellent all round player who is already a much better player than his dad Davie was. Nephew of Skye Camanachd 1990 Camanachd Cup winners Willie and John MacRae. 12. John Gillies - Youngest player in the squad who plays for North Skye and is still only in Primary 7. Sports crazy and son of another former Skye player and Camanachd Cup winner 'Gillie' who is also a so called shinty referee! Skilful and hardy player who has taken all his shinty ability from the MacLennan family. The Scottish Hydro Development Trophy Final between Skye Camanachd B and Milngavie & Bearsden also throws up at 11.45am takes place on the outside pitch. The game lasts 30 minutes each way. |
