Portree High School Inter-house Shinty Tournament. | |
05 September 2010 Portree High School held a lunchtime inter-house shinty tournament for first year pupils on Friday 3 September 2010 on the School all-weather pitch. Glamaig were the winning house and they won the crucial game against Bla-bheinn 3-0. Caitlin MacLean and Johnathon Laing were the main scorers for Glamaig as they went through the tournament undefeated. Bla-bheinn were very competitive and Connor Ross and Josh Knowles were strong performers as was Ryan Morrison. Brothers Donald and Iain Nicolson were good for Marsco and Tianabhaig battled gamely despite being short on squad numbers and James Pringle was a tireless performer. All teams were required to have at least 1 girl in their squad and Tara Danter, Korri Henderson and Rosie MacLeod all gave a good account for themselves. The final standings were as follows. First - Glamaig Second - Bla-bheinn Third - Marsco Fourth - Tianabhaig This is the first of a range of shinty activities within the High School with the emphasis on widening participation. There will be a second year tournament on Friday 10 September 2010 and a third year tournament the week after with a seniors competition with larger sides running later in the term. There will also be several more first year tournaments later on in the year. Skye Camanachd U17s Shaun Headley, Ally MacLeod, Jordan Murchison and Scott MacDonald and second year pupil Thomas MacPherson helped Gaelic teacher Eoghan Stewart ensure the fixture ran smoothly. Thanks to the teachers and the PE department who helped the event be such a success. |
