27 August 2010 Boleskine Shinty Club are to hold a memorial shinty match in remembrance of Laurence Parrot at Smith Park, Farr on Saturday 28 August 2010. Laurence Parrot came through the youth shinty ranks at Boleskine and was a talented player. He featured in the Boleskine U14 side which played home and away matches against the Skye Camanachd B U14 side in 2006. He also played in the Boleskine U14 side which lost out to Skye Camanachd B U14 in the U14 Development Final at Invergarry that same year. Skye Camanachd’s Martin Bruce played directly against Laurence in these matches. “I remember Laurence as a skilful player,” he said. “He was tough tackling and we had some good tussles during the games.” Laurence died in a tragic accident when diving with friends at the Foyers Falls on Sunday 6 September 2009. He was just 17 years old. The memorial match will be between the current Boleskine team and a team of former U14 players who played with Laurence between 2002 and 2006. Club stalwarts Joey Smith and Bob Black will be in charge of the current team whilst Inverness first team manager Steve Munro and his brother Rod Munro - who were youth coaches at Boleskine when Laurence played – will look after the team of former U14 players. Throw up at Smith Park, Farr is at 6pm. Prior to the match, a plaque commemorating Laurence will be unveiled in the club’s dressing room. |
