23 August 2010 The Artemis Macaulay Cup Final in Oban between Kingussie and Inveraray was the main event on Saturday 21 August 2010. Kingussie ended Inveraray’s dreams of 3 successive Artemis Macaulay Cup successes with a 4-3 extra time victory at Mossfield. To read a full report on the match, click on the following link Inveraray 3 Kingussie 4 Fort William’s Scottish Hydro Premier Division title aspirations suffered a blow following their 2-1 defeat to Kyles Athletic at An Aird. The Fort spurned the chance to go level on points with leaders Newtonmore and would have gone top on goal difference if they had won by 3 clear goals or more. Fort manager Peter MacIntyre was without injured forwards Drew Ferguson and Bryan Simpson. Gordie MacKinnon gave the Fort the lead after 6 minutes but goals from Duncan Kerr after 20 minutes and the impressive Grant Irvine 5 minutes into the second half ensured the points travelled south. The Fort now trail leaders Newtonmore by 2 points with a game in hand as the title race reaches the home straight. The match of the day in Marine Harvest North Division 1 was at Canal Parks where leaders Kilmallie hosted Lochaber. Lochaber were without injured wing back Danny Delaney who has been an absentee since the Balliemore Cup Final with a hamstring problem. Kilmallie’s tough defender Peter Carmichael was on holiday. After a goalless first half, John Stewart put the home side ahead on 75 minutes but Shaun Nicolson levelled 2 minutes from time. Lochaber had defender Neil MacDonald ordered off by referee Ron Kennedy late in the game. Skye Camanachd became the first side to beat Kinlochshiel on their own pitch this season when they won the Friday night west coast derby. The sides drew 1-1 at Braeview Park last weekend but Beauly found their scoring touch in their meeting at the Bught Park, Inverness. Conor Golabek gave Inverness a 7 minute lead but they only stayed ahead for 60 seconds when Beauly’s David MacLean scored. Beauly player / manager Stephen MacLean put the visitors ahead 4 minutes later and Sean Stewart made it 3-1 on 20 minutes. A Conor Ross goal on the half hour mark put Beauly 4-1 in front but a Craig Nicolson effort on 40 minutes made it 4-2. Beauly’s Barrie MacDonald netted 2 minutes before the break to put his side 5-2 up in what was a goal fest first half. Graeme MacMillan pulled a goal back for Inverness on 75 minutes but late goals from Beauly’s Stephen MacLean on 87 minutes and Barrie MacDonald from the penalty spot a minute later gave the visitors a 7-3 win. Lochcarron made the short journey to Castle Leod to play Caberfeidh. Cabers haven’t played in the league for 3 weeks. The sides had an exciting 3-3 draw when they met at Battery Park in May. A 5 minute strike from Gregor Cushnie gave Lochcarron the lead in this one. However a late Lee Nicol double on 70 and 80 minutes gave Cabers the points. The match between third top Kilmory and third bottom Taynuilt in Marine Harvest South Division 1 was postponed because of the Artemis Macaulay Cup Final as was the clash between Ballachulish and Lochside Rovers at Jubilee Park. Marine Harvest North Division 2 leaders Glengarry’s title chance suffered a blow when they went down 3-0 to Fort William in the noon throw up at An Aird. The Fort benefited from the inclusion of Duncan Rodger and he put his side ahead after 15 minutes. Michael Slezas made it 2-0 on the hour mark and Daniel Stewart added a third a couple of minutes later. Second place Glenurquhart ran out 7-0 winners over Kilmallie at Blairbeg. All of the Glen scorers play for their U17 side. U14 starlet Ewan Brady bagged a hat-trick with goals in the first, 62 and 63 minutes. Ewan Menzies also got in on the act with a trio on 56, 83 and a goal in the final minute. Daniel MacKintosh also scored 2 minutes from the break. Newtonmore beat Beauly 9-1 at Braeview Park. Mark MacDonald put ‘More ahead on 15 minutes and Chris Sellar added a second and third on 22 and 37 minutes. Ackie MacRae got in on the act to score the visitors’ fourth goal 5 minutes from the break. Mark MacDonald scored his second on 57 minutes and Chris Sellar completed his hat-trick 10 minutes later. Sellar scored his fourth on 80 minutes and MacRae added his second 2 minutes later. Owen Fraser completed Beauly’s misery with ‘More’s ninth goal in the final minute. Allan Bruce got the only goal for a Beauly side who had defender Scott MacLeod sent off. Lovat ran out 6-1 winners against Kinlochshiel at Balgate. Lovat started with the wind at their backs and Lewis Tawse gave them a 15 minutes lead. Further goals followed from James MacPherson on 18 minutes and Duncan Davidson 2 minutes later. Jimmy MacKenzie scored on 35 minutes to make the half time score 4-0 although the ball may have gone in off the ‘Shiel keeper. The visitors gave a better account of themselves in the second half but Greg Matheson added a double for Lovat on 47 and 51 minutes. U14 starlet Oliver MacRae scored ‘Shiel’s consolation goal on 57 minutes. Marine Harvest South Division 2 Champions Kyles Athletic travelled to Fife to play second place Aberdour in the only match in the division and they returned home with both points following a 5-1 victory. Lochaber missed out on the chance to close the gap on Marine Harvest North Division 3 leaders Aberdeen University when their match against Boleskine was postponed as the Spean Bridge pitch was unplayable. Caberfeidh second team player / manager Archie Ritchie netted 4 times as his side enjoyed a 5-1 home win over Ardnamurchan. Craig Morrison also netted for Cabers whilst Ewan Mowat replied for Ardnamurchan. Inverness player / manager Allan MacLeod was again on target on the stroke of half time as his side had a good 2-1 win over Lochbroom at the Bught Park. Gordie MacKenzie put Inverness 2-0 up just 2 minutes into the second half but Sandy Urquhart pulled a goal back a minute later. Lochbroom tried to draw level but Inverness held on to take the points. Kingussie Primary School won the 2010 MacKay Cup with an impressive 7-1 win over St Columba Primary School in Oban. Roddy Young – son of former Kingussie player Dallas Young – scored a hat-trick. Ruari Anderson scored twice and his father Davie Anderson is one of the Kingussie greats and he coaches the youngsters. Dillon Borthwick – son of first team keeper Andrew Borthwick – was also on target as was Alexander Michie who was impressive in the semi final win over Portree Primary School. |
