Artemis Macaulay Cup Final………….1 Day To Go! | |
20 August 2010 The Artemis Macaulay Cup Final between Kingussie and Inveraray takes place at Mossfield, Oban on Saturday 21 August 2010. The clash is a repeat of last season’s final which was won by Inveraray. It also brings together the winners of the 2010 regional cup competitions – the MacTavish and Glasgow Celtic Society Cups. Kingussie’s Ronal Ross missed last weekend’s win over Oban Camanachd with a knee injury but he returns for this one. Iain Borthwick is battling back to fitness following a horrendous run of injuries but manager Stevie Borthwick must decide whether his lack of match practice prevents his inclusion in the starting line-up. Inveraray boss John Smylie takes David MacPherson back into his squad after he missed most of the season through illness. Inveraray have struggled to get full centre David Robertson fully fit in recent weeks but he played against Glenurquhart last weekend so should feature. The sides have had one meeting in National Scottish Hydro Premier Division already this year. It was in March 2010 when champions Kingussie made their first appearance of the season. The match was scheduled to take place at the Dell but as it was encased in a covering of snow, the fixture was switched to the Winterton. Kingussie were without suspended full back Ally MacLeod but 16 year old Thomas Borthwick started in attack in what was a young King’s side. Inveraray’s new manager John Smylie made a good start to their season the previous week with a win over Kyles Athletic and followed this up with a 3-2 win over the reigning champions. Russell MacKinlay continued his good start to the season when he put the home side ahead after just 6 minutes – his second goal in 2 games. Thomas Borthwick repaid manager Stevie Borthwick’s faith in him by leveling the game after 15 minutes. However goals in 23 and 32 minutes from Inveraray stalwarts Garry MacPherson and Ewan McMurdo gave their side a 3-1 half time lead. The inevitable Ronald Ross goal for Kingussie came after 65 minutes but the Inveraray defence remained resolute for the reminder of the game to win the points. The Artemis Macaulay Cup Final is live on BBC 2 and throw up is at 2.25pm. |
