18 July 2010 Ahead of the weekly Shinty Round Up, the headlines from the shinty matches played on Saturday 17 July 2010 are……….. Balliemore Cup Final Kinlochshiel won the 2010 Balliemore Cup following an epic battle with Lochaber at An Aird. When Lochabers Shaun Nicolson scored his second goal of the game to put his side 4-3 in injury time, it looked as the trophy was heading for Spean Bridge. However there was still time for Keith MacRae to dramatically net his second to take the final into extra time. Shiel’s John Don MacKenzie was ordered off during the second period of extra time and as there was no further scoring, the match was settled on penalties. Shiel keeper Graham Kennedy was the hero as his team won 2-0 to win the Balliemore Cup for the second time. Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Cup holders Fort William are through to the last four with a 5-3 win over Oban Camanachd at Mossfield. The Fort had to come back from 3-1 down before second half strikes from Bryan Simpson and Gordie MacDonald put the Fort through. Kingussie clinched their place in the semi finals with a 3-0 win over Glenurquhart at Blairbeg. Ronald Ross scored twice and Ryan Borthwick got the other. Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup Lovat will meet Glenurquhart in the Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup Final following their 5-1 win over Kingussie at Balgate. Greg Matheson scored a hat-trick to set up a repeat of this year’s Strathdearn Cup Final. Scottish Hydro Premier Division League leaders Newtonmore had a massive 15-0 win over bottom side Glasgow Mid Argyll at the Eilan. All 15 goals were shared between the home side’s four forwards with David Cheyne and Danny MacRae each scoring double hat-tricks. A Roddy MacDonald double and a goal from Grant Irvine gave Kyles Athletic a 3-0 win over Bute at the Meadows. A Russell MacKinlay double gave Inveraray a 2-0 lead over an under-strength Lovat side at the Winterton. James MacPherson scored the Lovat goal 10 minutes from the end to set up a grand-stand finish. Marine Harvest North Division 1 Iain MacKenzie bagged a double as Lochcarron were 4-3 victors over Strathglass in the Friday night meeting at Battery Park. Inverness moved off the bottom of the table with a 6-1 win over Skye Camanachd at the Bught Park. U17 starlet Graeme MacMillan scored a hat-trick. The match between Kilmallie and second place Beauly was postponed as Canal Parks was unplayable. Marine Harvest South Division 1 The match between Ballachulish and bottom side Inveraray was postponed as Jubilee Park was unplayable. Marine Harvest North Division 2 Leaders Glengarry came back from the Eilan with a point after a 1-1 draw against Newtonmore. Chris Sellar scored for the home side whilst Matthew Clark got the ‘Garry goal. Skye Camanachd picked up another point following their 1-1 draw with Beauly at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. Angie MacDonald put Skye one up within the first 5 minutes but Jack MacDonald leveled before the break. Kilmallie were unable to raise a team for the match against second place Glenurquhart at Blairbeg. Marine Harvest South Division 2 Bue were unable to raise a team for their match against Tayforth in Perth. Fifth place Col Glen lost 2-1 against Aberdour. Ross Nicol and Doug Newsom scored for the visitors. Marine Harvest North Division 3 Former Skye Camanachd player Kenny MacLeod scored a hat-trick as leaders Aberdeen University beat Boleskine 8-3. Fourth place Lochbroom beat sixth place Inverness 2-0 in Ullapool thanks to goals from John MacFadyen and Lorne Hughes. A 7-2 win for Caberfeidh over Lochaber at Castle Leod takes them level on points with second place Lochaber although the Spean Bridge side has 3 games in hand. Alan Ross scored a hat-trick, Ian MacDonald a double whilst Gary MacLennan and player / manager Archie Ritchie got the others. Hebridean Celtic Festival Inter-Island Challenge Cup. Lewis Camanachd retained the Hebridean Celtic Festival Inter-Island Challenge Cup Trophy with a 4-1 win over Uist Camanachd in Stornoway. James Morrison, a Calum Stamper double and an 80 yard Paul Duke strike gave Lewis victory whilst a late Ruaridh MacDonald effort countered for Uist. The trophy was presented by Malcolm MacLean from Proieseact nan Ealian. |
