26 June 2010 Ahead of the weekly Shinty Round Up, the headlines from the shinty matches played on Saturday 26 June 2010 are……….. Glasgow Celtic Society Cup Final Inveraray came from 2 goals down to beat Kyles Athletic 3-2 and win the Glasgow Celtic Cup for the fourth successive year. Colin MacColl and Thomas White put Kyles 2-0 up but a Garry MacPherson hat-trick, the second coming from the penalty spot, gave Inveraray the win. Brothers Graeme and Garry MacPherson secured their 12th winners medal which beats Kyles’ great Kerr Crawford’s haul of 11 gongs. Bullough Cup Kyles Athletic are through to the Bullough Cup Final following their 5-0 win over The SCOTS at Yoker. Kyles only led 2-0 until 5 minutes from the end of the game and Roddy MacColl helped himself to a hat-trick. Scottish Hydro Premier Division Newtonmore stay top of the league following their 2-0 home win over Oban Camanachd. A goal in each half from Drew MacDonald and Evan Menzies sealed their win. Second place Fort William beat Glenurquhart 3-1 at An Aird. Calum Miller opened for the visitors but a Gordie MacKinnon double and a Drew Ferguson goal gave Fort the points. Ronald Ross scored 4 and Thomas Borthwick scored twice as Kingussie beat Bute 6-2. Marine Harvest North Division 1 A Kenny Ross goal after 33 minutes was enough to give Lochcarron the points in a 1-0 win over Skye Camanachd in the Friday night match at Battery Park. Beauly closed the gap on leaders Kinlochshiel to a single point following their 2-1 win over Strathglass in the 12 noon throw up at Braeview Park. David Neilson and Jack MacDonald scored first half goals for Beauly with Robert Geddes netting for Strathglass in the second half. It wasn’t to be Jack MacDonald’s last goal of the day. Lochaber edged out Caberfeidh in an exciting 4-3 victory at Spean Bridge. Ben Delaney scored twice from the spot for the home side whilst veteran Angus Morrison and internationalist Shaun Nicolson got the others. Kevin Bartlett scored for Cabers, also from the spot, and Lee Nichol bagged a double. Marine Harvest North Division 2 Ryan Borthwick gave Kingussie the lead with a first minute goal in their Friday night derby match against Newtonmore at the Dell. However a Davis Wilde double and a Mark MacDonald strike gave ‘More the points with a 3-1 win. Glengarry remain in top spot following a 3-2 win over Beauly at Invergarry. Jack MacDonald dashed to the game following his scoring appearance for the Beauly first team and he scored a first half double. The Glen are a force this season though and Steven Cameron and a Mathew Clark double gave them victory. Glenurquhart beat Fort William 3-1 at Blairbeg to retain second place. Ban Hosie put the Glen ahead after 6 minutes and Ewan Brady made it 2-0 just 3 minutes later. Bobby MacMillan pulled a goal back for the Fort after 18 minutes but Brady added his second on 53 minutes. Greg Matheson scored 4 times and his brother Jamie got the other as Lovat beat Kilmallie 5-4 at Canal Parks. Robbie MacFadyen scored twice for Kilmallie. Skye Camanachd moved off the bottom of the table with a 5-2 derby win over Kinlochshiel in Portree. Danny Morrison put Skye ahead after 8 minutes whilst Iain Morrison added a second 10 minutes later. Iain Morrison scored his second on the half hour mark but Shiel enjoyed a lot of pressure during the remainder of the half and they pulled a goal back through Duncan DA MacRae from the penalty spot on 37 minutes. A Michael Morrison goal on 48 minutes reduced the deficit to a single goal but strikes from Allan MacKinnon and first team manager Aonghas MacDonald gave Skye victory. Marine Harvest South Division 2 The games between Col Glen and Aberdour and Strachur and Bute were both postponed as the sides had players playing in the MacQuistin Cup Final in which Glasgow Mid Argyll beat Strachur 2-0. Marine Harvest North Division 3 An 89 minute goal from Iain MacDonald gave Cabers a draw against Inverness at Castle Leod. Liam Girvan had given Inverness the lead after 16 minutes before he was later sent off as was Cabers’ Ruaraidh MacCready. A 93 minute strike from Alan Stewart gave Lochcarron a share of the points against Strathglass at Cannich. Stuart Harvey scored a hat-trick for the home side. An Iain Grant double wasn’t enough to give Boleskine the points as they drew 4-4 at Ardnamurchan. The match between Lochbroom and Lochaber was postponed. |
