05 June 2010 Ahead of the weekly Shinty Round Up, the headlines from the shinty matches played on Saturday 5 June 2010 are……….. Balliemore Cup Kinlochshiel are through to the semi finals of the Balliemore Cup following their 4-1 win over Beauly at Kirkton. The sides were level at the break but a second half double from Finlay MacRae helped see Shiel through to a last 4 meeting with Skye Camanachd. Bullough Cup A first half Donald Colville strike was enough to put Glasgow Mid Argyll into the second round with a 1-0 win over Tayforth. A Colin Marshall double helped The SCOTS into the semi finals as they beat Bute 3-1 at Ballachulish. Kyles Athletic reached the last 4 with a 3-0 win over Aberdour. Roddy MacColl scored twice. This match doubled up as a Marine Harvest South Division 2 league fixture. Lochside Rovers had a walk-over against London. Marine Harvest Premier Division Glasgow Mid Argyll won their first points of the season when they beat Glenurquhart 1-0 at Yoker. An Andy Mathie goal 7 minutes from the break sparked the celebrations. A goal in each half from Thomas Borthwick and Ronald Ross gave Kingussie a 2-0 win over Kyles Athletic at Tighnabruaich. The reigning champions now move into third place. An Owen Fraser double means Newtonmore remain top of the table with a 3-1 over Lovat at the Eilan. Fort William had a good 3-0 win over Inveraray at An Aird. Gordie MacKinnon set them on their way with a goal a minute before the break. A brace from Robert Walker helped Bute to a 4-1 win over Oban Camanachd at Mossfield. All the goals came in the second half. Marine Harvest North Division 1 Skye Camanachd had a 6-3 win over Lochaber in the Portree sunshine. Kenny Campbell scored twice for the Islanders. Kilmallie eventually saw off Strathglass by the odd goal in 5 at Cannich. Liam MacDonald scored twice. A Finlay Stark strike 4 minutes from time gave Lochcarron a 2-1 victory over Inverness at Battery park. Marine Harvest South Division 1 Glenorchy’s seemingly inevitable return to top flight shinty moved another step closer when they won 5-0 at Kilmory. Alex MacPherson was on target again with 2 goals. Bottom club Inveraray picked up their first point of the season with a 2-2 draw with second place Oban Celtic. Neil Gillies scored twice as Taynuilt beat Ballachulish 4-1. Marine Harvest North Division 2 Skye Camanachd moved off the bottom of the table with a 2-1 win over Beauly at Braeview Park. Allan MacKinnon and Angie MacDonald got their goals. Hat-tricks from veteran Stuart Morrison and youngster Kelvin MacKenzie helped Glenurquhart to a 7-1 home win over Newtonmore. Youth and experience were also to the fore as Kingussie beat Kilmallie 7-0. Rory Borthwick and Kevin Thain each scored twice. Steven Cameron scored a goal in each half as Glengarry beat Lovat 2-0. Kinlochshiel were unable to raise a team for their trip to An Aird so Fort William pick up the points. Marine Harvest South Division 2 Steven Bulloch scored a hat-trick as Strachur demolished Col Glen 7-1. Marine Harvest South Division 3 Lewis Smith grabbed 4 goals as Boleskine beat Strathglass 8-0. Doubles from Liam Girvan and Gordie MacKenzie gave Inverness a 4-0 win over Ardnamurchan. Aberdeen University had a walk-over as Lochcarron were unable to raise a team for their game. |
