02 June 2010 The Skye Camanachd U17 side are through to the semi finals of the MacTavish Juvenile Cup following their 4-0 win over Beauly at Braeview Park on Tuesday 1 June 2010. Skye suffered a blow ahead of the game when Magnus Burd called off as he was unwell. Beauly also had a couple of significant withdrawals. Jack MacDonald missed out because of a calf problem whilst Scott MacLeod had 4 stitches inserted into a leg gash following last weekend’s second team match against Kilmallie. Both sides enjoyed some possession in the opening minutes. Beauly’s Ryan Stewart was spoken to by referee Jock Matheson for a wild swing at Skye’s John Gillies as the Islanders started to take a grip on the game. Chris MacLennan had Skye’s first real chance after 6 minutes but his shot came off Beauly keeper Neil Brennan for a corner. MacLennan again went close after 12 minutes when he clicked his marker and dispossessed them only for his shot to fly wide of the keepers left post. MacLennan then turned provider when he won possession on the right and crossed for Jordan Murchison. Again Brennan came to Beauly’s rescue when he saved Murchison’s shot with his legs. Skye took the lead on 23 minutes with a well worked goal. Ally MacLeod won possession on the Skye left and played in Jordan Murchison who crossed into the danger area. Chris MacLennan chested the ball down before turning and hammering it into the back of the net. Skye almost doubled their advantage a couple of minutes later. A Martin Bruce free hit from the middle of the park found John Gillies and he controlled the ball before shooting just past the post. Skye kept up the pressure and a good move involving Jordan Murchison and John Gillies on 32 minutes set up a chance for MacLennan but he hurried his shot and the ball sailed over the bar. Play was stopped for Skye’s Ally MacLeod to receive treatment to a knock on the leg after 37 minutes and the visitors had to settle for a single goal lead after the first 40 minutes. Skye went on the offensive from the start of the second half and MacLennan caused havoc in the home defence in the opening minute but he couldn’t get a shot on target. A Daniel Morrison shy on 44 minutes found Jordan Murchison and he played a nice pass to Ally MacLeod whose shot rose over the bar. John Gillies spayed a good pass out to Jordan Murchison on the Skye right on 47 minutes. Murchison played a one-two with Chris MacLennan before nipping in on goal, swivelling in front of the keeper and knocking the ball into the net to make it 2-0. Beauly swapped full centre Jordan Keil and buckshee back Ryan Stewart but Skye continued to press and Iain MacLeod in their goal was a virtual spectator. Shaun Hedley showed some clean hitting from defence and fellow defenders Iain Grant, Calum Gibb and Scott MacLeod were rarely troubled. Skye went 3-0 up after 56 minutes. A Chris MacLennan cross from the right was stopped by Ryan Stewart but before the Beauly defender could clear the ball, MacLennan took it off him and nipped past a couple of defenders before sweeping the ball into the net. MacLennan completed his hat-trick on 59 minutes when he collected a Jordan Murchison pass and slammed the ball into the net. Skye’s Ally MacLeod was withdrawn late in the game after receiving a knock to the elbow. He then collapsed on the touchline before receiving medical attention and a check up at Raigmore Hospital. However he was thankfully given the all-clear later in the evening to make the journey home. Skye will now play Lochaber U17 in the MacTavish Juvenile Cup semi finals after the Spean Bridge side beat Kingussie U17 8-1 in their quarter final tie.
