The Shinty Preview – Saturday 15 May 2010. | |
14 May 2010 The Balliemore Cup reaches the quarter final stage on Saturday 15 May 2010.
Two of the Balliemore Cup quarter finals are not going ahead as both Beauly and Lochcarron have requested a free Saturday to cheer on Ross County in the Scottish Cup Final against Dundee Utd. The ties between Kinlochshiel and Beauly and Lochaber and Lochcarron will now take place on Saturday 5 June 2010.
The two ties which go ahead are both meetings between teams from Marine Harvest North Division 1 and Marine Harvest South Division 1.
Skye Camanachd host Taynuilt at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. Playmaker Somhairle MacDonald is missing for the home side as he has a hamstring problem. Taynuilt have one win and two draws from their six league games this season and they too have a couple of injuries to contend with. This will be the first ever meeting between the sides.
Glenorchy and Kilmallie meet at Dalmally. The home side has been in impressive form in the league this season and they have a 100% record from their 5 games played. Kilmallie will be formidable opponents but they will be without the suspended John Stewart and Michael Rodger.
The match of the day in the Scottish Hydro Premier Division is undoubtedly at the Dell where Badenoch rivals Kingussie and Newtonmore meet. Both sides have had injury problems in recent weeks. Kingussie keeper Andrew Borthwick played with a knee injury last weekend but he is expected to face Newtonmore. Kingussie will have influential defender Ally MacLeod back after a leg injury but Ian Borthwick is unlikely to make it. Rory Fraser missed last week’s win at Kilmallie. Newtonmore will be without defender Andy MacKintosh and forward Danny MacRae but Norman Campbell returns from holiday. The sides met in the MacTavish Cup a couple of weeks ago. It took extra time and 4 Ronald Ross goals to separate the sides.
Second place Fort William hope to have James Clark fit for the trip to Yorker to play Glasgow Mid Argyll. The forward picked up a leg knock in last weekend’s extra time MacTavish Cup win over Glenurquhart at Blairbeg. John MacDonald also returns to their side. First team manager Peter MacIntyre may also consider Chris Bamber for selection following his impressive display for the reserves against the Skye Camanachd second team last weekend.
Inveraray travel to the Meadows to play Bute. Both sides have been in good form recently so this should be a good match.
Glenurquhart host Kyles Athletic at Blairbeg. The Glen are without Calum Miller and Lewis MacLennan whilst Eddie Tembo is a doubt. Kyles hold a 2 point advantage in the league and they have a game in hand.
There is a potential relegation battle at Balgate where Lovat and Oban Camanachd meet. Both sides have 5 points from their opening 7 games and only Glasgow Mid Argyll sit below them in the league.
There is one rearranged match in Marine Harvest North Division 1 as Kinlochshiel and Lochaber meet at Kirkton. The home side has been in good form of late with the MacRae brothers Keith, Finlay and John all featuring amongst their goal scorers. Lochaber have yet to announce who is to manage the side in place of Ally Ferguson and Jason Latto who both resigned last weekend. Both sides sit a point behind league leaders Caberfeidh so the winners will go top of the table.
There is just one fixture in Marine Harvest South Division 1 as Ballachulish and Oban Celtic meet at Jubilee Park. A win for the home side could see them climb a few places in the league. Oban Celtic have had a couple of difficult weekends, losing 19 goals in 2 meetings with Inveraray.
Marine Harvest North Division 2 leaders Glenurquhart travel to the Dell to play Kingussie. This match has a 12 noon throw up ahead of the Badenoch derby.
Glengarry make the short journey to Canal Parks to play Kilmallie. The Garry were 2 goal winners when the sides met at Invergarry earlier in the season thanks to goals from Martin Cameron and Steven Cameron.
Second place Fort William meet fourth place Lovat at An Aird. Lovat were 2-1 winners when the sides met in March thanks to strikes from Martin Anderson and Owen Ferguson.
The match between Newtonmore and Skye Camanachd at the Eilan has a 1pm throw up. Newtonmore were convincing winners when the sides met in Portree earlier in the season when the ‘Mores David Wilde ran riot with 5 goals. Both sides will likely be missing players because of first team absentees.
The Kinlochshiel v Beauly clash is off because of the Scottish Cup Final.
Marine Harvest South Division 2 leaders Kyles Athletic play second place Col Glen at Tighnabruaich. Kyles were 8-0 winners when the sides met in March with Roddy McColl scoring 4 goals.
Third place Aberdour trail the leaders by 5 points but they have 3 games in hand. This weekend they head for Yoker to play Glasgow Mid Argyll in a 12 noon throw up.
There is also a noon meeting for bottom side Bute against fifth place Tayforth at the Meadows.
Marine Harvest North Division 3 leaders Lochaber travel to Cannich to play second bottom Strathglass.
Second place Aberdeen University head for the Highland capital to play Inverness. The Students were 6-1 winners when the sides met on the opening day of the season when former Skye Camanachd player Kenny MacLeod scored a hat-trick.
The matches between Boleskine and Lochcarron and Caberfeidh and Ardnamurchan are off as both Lochcarron and Cabers asked for free weekends so their players can attend the Scottish Cup Final between Ross County and Dundee Utd. |
