Portree Primary School 8 Inverlochy Primary School 0. | |
02 May 2010 Reigning champions Portree Primary School are safely through to the second round of the national MacKay Cup following their 8-0 win over Inverlochy Primary School at the Portree High School all-weather pitch on Friday 30 April 2010.
Portree ended the match as a contest when they built up a 6-0 half time lead.
Portree’s Connor Ross was prolific in front of goal, scoring his side’s first 4 goals.
Johnny Laing added a fifth and Ross scored again before the break to make it 6-0.
This gave Portree coach Davie Pringle the chance to introduce his substitutes in the second half and his side still had time to score 2 more special goals.
First Stewart Taylor broke down the right before crashing an unstoppable drive from 20 yards into the roof of the net.
Caitlin MacLean played buckshee back for Portree and her clever positional player and clean hitting made her the best player on display. She pushed forward in the closing stages and in one move, she beat 3 Inverlochy players before hitting a 25 yard drive which took a slight deflection before flying into the back of the net.
Portree’s Ben Nicolson had the ball in the net during the second half but his effort was ruled out for offside.
As well as the goal scorers, Portree were well served by keeper Iain P MacKenzie who dealt confidently with everything that came his way, Donald Nicolson at full back, and Iain Nicolson and James Pringle in midfield.
Inverlochy, coached by Fort William veteran John MacLeod, competed well but couldn’t match Portree, particularly down the middle of the side.
Portree will now host Beauly Primary School in the second round of the competition.
