Portree Primary School A Win Skye First Shinty Tournament. | |
21 February 2010 Portree Primary School A won the Isle of Skye Primary Schools Camanachd Association First Shinty Tournament at the Fingal Centre, Portree on Saturday 20 February 2010.
A total of 10 teams from all over Skye took part in the competition. There were 3 teams from Portree Primary School, 2 North End teams, 2 sides from South Skye, 2 Bracadale teams and a side from Dunvegan Primary School.
Portree A won League A and Portree C came runners up.
North End A topped League B with Portree B runners up.
Portree A beat Portree B in the first semi final to secure a place in the final.
North End A and Portree C finished level in the second semi final so the match went into a golden goal period. North End youngster John Gillies got the all important strike which put his side into the final.
The final was well contested and a first half goal from North End’s Ewan MacDonald gave his side an interval lead.
Portree A’s Johnathan Laing made it 1-1 early in the second period.
James Pringle put Portree A 2-1 up shortly after that.
However just when it looked as if Portree A had won the game, North Skye’s Calum Campbell popped up to score with just 20 seconds remaining.
The match then went into the golden goal period.
Johnathan Laing was the Portree A hero when his second strike of the final won the match and ensured Portree A retained the trophy.
James Pringle, Johnathan Laing and Caitlin MacLean all played well for Portree A throughout the whole tournament whilst Ewan MacDonald, Calum Campbell and John Gillies were top performers for the North End team as was Charlie Matheson who was outstanding in the North End goal.
Both Portree A and North End now go through to the P 7 & under National First Shinty Finals at the Sports Centre, Inverness on 20 March 2010. This tournament features the regional winners from First Shinty Indoor events throughout Scotland and has a 12 noon start.
Portree A are national reigning champions in this competition whilst some of the North End players played for the side which were P5 & under runners up last year. |
