15 February 2010 Holders Strathglass retained the MacDonald Cup following a 2–2 draw with neighbours Glenurquhart at Cannich on Saturday 13 February 2010.
Pre-match favourites Glenurquhart looked to be on course to win back the famous trophy when they built up a 2–0 first half lead through a Lewis MacLennan double.
However Strath moved up a gear in the second half and got their reward in 75 minutes when substitute Ally Rothe managed to steer the ball over the line from close range.
In a dramatic finish, Rothe fired the crucial equaliser in the 89th minute when he crashed a powerful 25 yard drive high in to Glen keeper Stewart MacKintosh’s net.
In the Ally Ban Cup match that preceded the main event, Glen reserves retained the trophy after a comfortable 7 – 1 win over their Strath counterparts. |
