Bernisdale Win Ewen Morrison Memorial Cup.
Bernisdale won the Ewen Morrison Memorial Cup for the first time following the annual inter Island competition.
The Ewen Morrison Memorial Cup had become a traditional warm up for the Skye Camanachd players ahead of the new shinty season. However the tournament did not take its usual 4 team format as North End were unable to field a side. Therefore the competition took the form of a 3 team round-robin tournament.
Holders South End sat out the first match as deadly rivals Portree and Bernisdale started the proceedings. This contest was as fiercely contested as ever with no quarter asked or given. However it was Bernisdale who took a grip of the game with Angie Murchison and Charlie Devlin lively in attack. Bernisdale eventually ran out convincing 8-3 winners.
The Portree side rallied in their next match though and they beat South End 3-1 in a close affair.
This left Bernisdale knowing that victory over last year’s winners South End would give them the title for the first time. The match was end to end but Bernisdale’s skill and determination won the day and they ran out 6-3 winners.
Bernisdale captain Donnie Martin was presented with the Ewen Morrison Memorial Cup.
