Skye Camanachd U17 9 Beauly 1
Skye Camanachd U17 proved too strong for Beauly U17 and they clinched the WJ Cameron League with a 9-1 win over Beauly at Lochcarron.
There was a large and noisy support at Battery Park which created a great atmosphere.
It was Beauly who took the lead after just 2 minutes but the Skye youngsters did not let this affect their confidence.
The Islanders rattled up 4 quick goals to race into a 4-1 first half lead. Steven Morrison (Uig) and Kenny Campbell found the back of the net as did Jamie Beaton who netted twice.
Skye full centre Allan MacLeod was turning in a fantastic performance against Karl Symon in the middle of the park as his team took their 3 goal advantage into the half time break.
Skye dominated the second half and added a further 5 goals.
Steven Morrison (Uig) scored his second whilst Jamie Beaton went on to complete his hat-trick.
Keith MacKenzie also scored as did buckshee back Jamie Nicolson.
A 30 yard shot from John Murphy made it 9-1 just 8 minutes from time.
Camanachd Association Vice Chief Douglas MacIntosh praised the high standard on shinty on display in the Final.
This victory meant that Donnie Martin’s young team had swept the boards at U17 level. They completed the Grand Slam, adding the WJ Cameron League to the MacTavish Juvenile Cup and London Shield.
They had also won 4 of the 5 trophies on offer at U14 and U17 level during 1997 including the North U14 League Title. Skye only missed out on the U14 MacMaster Cup where they were beaten finalists. |
