11 January 2010 Season 1986 / 87 – The Cups Camanachd Cup Saturday 7 February 1987 – Camanachd Cup First Round – Boleskine 0 Skye Camanachd 6 Skye Camanachd made it safely through to the second round of the Camanachd Cup with a comfortable win over Boleskine. Skye player / manager Calum Murchison made changes to the side which lost to Skye took the lead after 10 minutes when a Cowie pass found Murchison in space and he scored from the edge of the D. Murchison scored his second to make it 2-0 just moments later. This time it was the other newcomer, Ross who set him up. A fantastic solo goal from Peter Gordon before the break lit up the match and gave Skye a 3-0 interval lead. Skye didn’t have it all their own way though and keeper Ian “Dowel” MacLeod had to make a couple of good saves to keep out a Boleskine side who were always dangerous on the break. Skye also found Boleskine full back Joey Smith to be a formidable barrier throughout the game. A 25 yard drive from Willie MacRae 5 minutes after the break made it 4-0. A couple of minutes later, a blistering chest high volley from Peter Gordon made it 5-0. The keeper touched the ball but the sheer force of the shot gave him little chance of keeping the ball out of the net. Midway through the second half, Duncan MacDougall blasted an effort goalwards but his shot was blocked. However Calum Murchison latched onto the rebound and knocked the ball into the net to complete his hat-trick and make the final score 6-0 in Skye’s favour. Skye would face a much more testing tie in the second round as they were drawn against Kingussie at the Dell. |
