06 January 2010 Season 1986 / 87 – The Cups The Sutherland Cup Saturday 24 January 1987 – Sutherland Cup First Round – Skye Camanachd 5 Glengarry 0 A second half goal blitz against Glengarry at the King George V Playing Field ensured Skye Camanachd had a smooth passage into the Sutherland Cup second round. The sole first half strike came when Ally “Digg” MacDonald struck Glengarry keeper Lindsay Bruce’s post and Ally MacInnes latched onto the rebound to give Skye the lead. Skye doubled their advantage 5 minutes into the second period and it was another trademark John MacRae effort as he waltzed through the Garry defence to literally walk the ball into the back of the net. Skye then put the outcome beyond doubt with 2 goals in just 2 minutes. First Ally MacInnes notched his second to make it 3-0 and then Ally “Digg” MacDonald scored the goal his fine play deserved to make it 4-0. The Glengarry defence fought bravely with full back Alex Barnett outstanding and keeper Lindsay Bruce made several impressive saves during the game. Ally “Digg” MacDonald netted his second in the closing minutes to make the final score 5-0 to the Islanders. Skye now had a tricky trip to |
