05 January 2010 The Uist shinty stars of tomorrow took part in the second Lachlan McQuien U14 Memorial Shield clash on Hogmanay. The sides played for the Shield which was donated by Angus MacInnes in honour of his grandfather, Lachlan McQuien who was one of the last surviving players from the 1907 shinty match between Tigharry and Sollas. He maintained a keen interest in the game up until his death in 1986. The Shield is contested between the North Uist West Side and The A penalty after 7 minutes gave Moments later Ruairidh Muncaster got on the end of a Fraser Ballantyne cross to crash the ball into the net and put Two good saves from East Side keeper Joseph MacInnes prevented Seumas Boyle and Angus MacInnes from scoring and bringing the Shortly before half-time, Ewen Campbell found the bottom corner of the net to give the Shortly after the re-start, Robbie Anderson was always dangerous in the Younger players Mathew McIsaac and Finlay MacVicar also deserve a mention for holding their own so well against much older and stronger players.
