28 December 2009 The Camanachd Association has announced a newly restructured Level 1 Shinty Coaching Certificate Course in Shinty. This course is designed to build on the Foundation Course which was launched at the end of 2008 and which has been completed by over 250 new shinty coaches. Any Skye Camanachd coaches interested in attending should contact a committee member or e-mail info@skyecamanachd.com The courses consists of: 1) Two day Practical / Theory sessions; Saturday: 10.00am – 7.00pm Sunday: 10.00am – 5.00pm North: Saturday 30 January 2010 and Sunday 31 January 2010 South: Saturday 6 February 2010 and Sunday 7 February 2010 2) A Coaching Session assessment at the candidates Club / School Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Shinty Introduction The Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Shinty course has been designed to reflect the principles of a United Kingdom Coaching Certificate with successful candidates receiving a Camanachd Association Level 1 Certificate Qualification Aim UKCC Level 1 Descriptor: - ‘Deliver aspects of coaching sessions under direction,’ e.g. Coach players with guidance from a Head Coach, Coaching coordinator or NGB scheme Camanachd Association perspective: This course is provided for a) new coaches who have completed the Foundation Certificate, b) Coaches who have completed the previous Level 1 course prior to 2008 and c) unqualified players/coaches who can demonstrate appropriate experience. It is anticipated that candidates who are awarded this new Level 1 Certificate will become Head Coaches at Youth and Reserve team level and/or Assistant Coaches at Senior Level. A new Level 2 Certificate for Head Coaches at senior level will be developed in the future. A programme of Coach Workshops will be provided in the interim. Qualification Objectives On successful completion of the L1 course, you should be able to: · Demonstrate an ability to safely organise and supervise shinty activities, including small and conditioned games · Promote and establish working relationships and high standards of behaviour with players, coaches, parents and officials in the overall development of shinty · Demonstrate an understanding of: - Generic coaching skills - Shinty specific coaching skills, including hitting, controlling, dribbling, shies, blocking and clicking - Coach and player development - Good practice in club management and coaching - Health and safety - working with parents, attitudes and ethics - Basic rules of the game of shinty · Demonstrate an ability to identify and adapt shinty activities and sessions for a variety of different age groups Qualification Outline The course operates as two full days plus an assessment at the candidates Club/School. The two day section of the course is a mix of theory and practical sessions and you will be given opportunities to develop your coaching throughout the course. The CA Level 1 course sits relative to the Level 1 of the National Qualifications Framework. It is framed to the Sport & Recreation National Occupational Standards (NOS). The NOS for Sport & Recreation have been developed by people from the industry with a vast range of knowledge and experience. The standards provide a benchmark of good practice for coaches, teachers and instructors. Assessment Assessment is competency based allowing you to be continually assessed & receive support & action planning throughout the course. There is also some home study to undertake and an open book multi choice test. Prerequisites Candidates are required to be 16 years of age or over before they can be registered for the qualification. It is recommended that coaches new to the game of shinty will have attended a Foundation Course before attending a Level 1. Total Hours: 21 hours Application Course costs £75 Inc VAT. Please enquire about possible grants. Coaches receive a Level 1 Coaching Resource Pack, Coaches Log Book & Rules Booklet. Completed Application Forms must be attached with a Cheque made out to the Camanachd Association for the above amount. Please send in applications (including cheques) to Graham Cormack at the Camanachd Association Offices. Should your application for a course be unsuccessful, your cheque will be returned. There will however be a small standby list for each course. Candidates not attending Courses: If a candidate does not attend the course or who gives less than 48 hours notice of non attendance then he / she will receive no refund. If a candidate gives between 2 and 14 days notice of cancellation, the candidate will be relocated to another course providing they pay an administration charge of £25. There will be no refund. If a candidate gives more than 2 weeks notice they will be offered either relocation to another course at no charge or a refund of 75% of the course cost. |
