Memory Lane – Season 1986 / 87 – Part 4. | |
27 November 2009 Skye Camanachd sat proudly at the top of North Division 1 following a 4-0 win over Glenurquhart at the King George V Park, Portree. Skye found Billy MacLeod in the Glen goal to be in fine form in the opening minutes as the Islanders, cheered on by their supporters, went for the opening goal. It came in 17 minutes when Calum Murchison collected up a Shorty Murchison corner and cracked the ball past MacLeod from the acutest of angles for the opening goal. Glenurquhart came back into the game but were unable to breakdown a well organised Skye defence. Billy MacLeod was back in action as the first half drew to a close. Willie MacKinnon won possession on the Skye right and he played in Peter Gordon who unleashed a great first time shot from 30 yards out only to see MacLeod produce a breathtaking save. Skye had a penalty appeal turned down before player / manager Calum Murchison notched his second from close range to make it 2-0 on 55 minutes. Skye made it 3-0 just 10 minutes later following a fluent passing move between Duncan MacDougall and Peter Gordon which resulted in Gordon bursting forward to get on the end of MacDougall’s through-ball and he confidently smacked the ball past MacLeod. Calum Murchison rounded off the scoring on 75 minutes when he benefited from good play by Willie MacKinnon on the Skye left and beat MacLeod to seal 2 valuable points. Skye now had 4 points out of 4 in what was a promising start to their league campaign. Their next outing was a trip to An Aird to play Archie MacDonald’s Skye Camanachd second team were brought crashing back down to earth when they suffered a heavy defeat to the Glenurquhart second team at Drumnadrochit.
