North U14 4 South U14 0. | |
16 November 2009 The North U14 side retained the Fraser MacPhee Trophy with a 4-0 win over South U14 at Tulliallan, The North lost The North created several chances in the first half but could not turn their advantage into goals. Skye’s Chris MacLennan went close of 2 occasions – one shot which flew across the face of the goal and one rebound off South keeper Jack Hill of Oban Celtic was knocked just past the post. Skye’s Jordan Murchison hit the frame of the goal with one blistering drive and Glenurquhart’s Ewen Brady and Kinlochshiel’s Jordan Fraser were also in the thick of the action. However the North didn’t have it all their own way Aberdour’s Alec Mitchell was always a threat for the South as was Oban Celtic’s John McNulty. The North were well served in defence by Skye’s Shaun Hedley, Lochaber’s Jack Dignan, Beauly’s Scott MacLeod and Caberfeidh’s Tom Evans who was one of the day’s top performers. The North piled on the pressure at the start of the second half. Murchison and Brady combined well only for the latter to shoot wide. However the breakthrough came 4 minutes into the second half when Ewen Brady burst through the centre of the North defence to meet an Aaron MacPhee cross and net the game’s opening goal. Just 7 minutes later, Newtonmore’s Calum Stewart, who had a good game throughout at wing centre, pushed forward to fire the ball past Hill to make it 2-0. Brady had a goal disallowed before he fired high into the net 20 minutes into the second period for his second goal of the match. Calum Stewart added his second goal 5 minutes from the end to complete the scoring and give the North a 4-0 win. The South side should be pleased with their performance as this was a much improved showing from the previous 2 meetings. They matched the North physically and Glasgow Mid Argyll’s Finlay MacMillan put in a tireless performance in defence.
