Lochaber are looking forward to their Scottish Hydro Premier Division meeting with Newtonmore at Spean Bridge on Saturday 14 November 2009.
A victory would secure top flight shinty for the Spean Bridge side and speaking in this week’s Lochaber News, Head Coach Ally Ferguson said, "Newtonmore were beaten 3-1 by Kingussie last weekend, so we are aware that there is the potential of a backlash. There are two really valuable points at stake and, to me, what's at stake for Newtonmore is irrelevant. This match must be treated like a cup final as we only have one match left and we know we are safe if we win it. Newtonmore are a really good side and they are not up there in the chase for the title for no reason.”
Reflecting on his own side’s form, Ferguson said, "A very good second half from us against Glenorchy (in a 4-2 away Lochaber win last month) shows how well we can play and we will have to be at the top of our game. Although we haven't had many matches, we have been training regularly and everyone is available. There's everything to play for and Newtonmore won't write us off. Given where we are in the league in relation to them, we are not being tipped to win this one, but you never know in shinty. Our victory against Glenorchy has given us a fighting chance - this one on Saturday is ours to take if we can. We're all really looking forward to it."
