Tense Two Weeks Ahead In Title Race. | |
11 November 2009 There are a tense 2 weeks ahead for Badenoch giants Newtonmore and Kingussie as the Scottish Hydro Premier Divison title race goes down to the wire. Weather permitting, the most exciting title race in years will be settled over the next couple of weeks. Champions Kingussie head for Tighnabruaich to play Kyles Athletic this weekend. Challengers Newtonmore are also in action this weekend as they head for Kingussie have a 2 point advantage in the league but Newtonmore have one match in hand. Kingussie also have a 5 goal difference advantage. However if this weekend’s fixtures go ahead, Newtonmore could have the advantage of knowing exactly what they need to do in their final match. These fixtures become even more intriguing when you consider that Kyles Athletic, Lochaber and Inveraray all have much to play for. There are also a considerable number of players in all 3 sides who will simply not want to be cannon fodder as the big two shoot out for a title which could well be decided on goal difference. Therefore both sides would do well to focus on points first and foremost before casting an eye to the goal difference position. Kingussie head for Tighnabruaich without the suspended Ally MacLeod and they will miss his presence in defence. They also lost to Kyles at the Dell in the league this season and they were knocked out of the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup by the Tighnabruaich men following their controversial abandoned match in the same competition. Newtonmore had for ‘More will be without the suspended Scott Campbell who’s season is over but they could have David Cheyne for one last match. Inveraray’s plight could be dependant on the outcome of this weekends meeting with Whatever happens, the only thing to be sure of is that there will be a feast of exciting shinty before the title is decided. |
