10 September 2009 Skye Camanachd’s Cuairt gu It is time to pack up, leave Once again, the NCCC transport corps arrives to transport us and our entire luggage to our luxury motel. In the evening we are invited to Ben’s house for a final parting barbeque and sing-song. Ben’s BBQ contains 4 racks of rib that look as if they came from a giraffe such is their size. Later, he also shows us his solar panel array which provides all the electricity for his house and his distillery which provides all his own bio-diesel converted from old cooking oil. Michael and Susan regale us some fine traditional tunes on the fiddle and bodhran. AB gives the company some tunes on the pipes - the reeds have miraculously fixed themselves - and AP has a good go at playing a toy accordion before we give him the real thing. Donnie does a ‘port à beul and makes his farewell vote of thanks to our incredibly generous hosts who have taught us the true meaning of hospitality, generosity of spirit and enthusiasm for the sport. Strangely, there were no requests from the hosts for a repeat of our ‘Flower of Scotland’ on this occasion and we decide they were so moved by the previous rendition that they could not cope with the emotion of it. Eventually, it is time for hugs, kisses, clearing of throats and firm handshakes as we head back to the hotel for an early night before our flight home to An incredible two weeks! |
