The California Chronicle Day – 11: Thursday 3 September 2009. | |
10 September 2009 Skye Camanachd’s Cuairt gu This is the day of the big move to the Highland Games hotel at The NCCC transportation corps turn up again in their ‘Suburbans’ (even bigger than SUV’s) which again swallow the luggage and whisk us over to the San Ramon Marriot - a big improvement on the student accommodation we have been used to. Such is the quality of service, that when we were stopped bringing in some crates of beer, the question is not what is going on, but whether Sir would like an additional fridge brought to the room to keep the beer cold! That evening, there is a welcome ceilidh at the Pleasanton Brewery where AB and AP do a turn on the pipes and the box joined by Michael on bodhran and his wife on fiddle. Afterwards some local girls become self appointed ‘kilt inspectors’ to ensure everyone is attired in the true manner expected. The lads are confused when their sporrans are referred to as ‘murses’ – man purses - which are apparently very common on San Francisco, but not on the Isle of Skye. |
