Kingussie and Kyles Athletic have to do battle all over again after referee Charles Young called off their Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup semi final after 65 minutes on Saturday 15 August 2009.
This semi final was originally set as part of a Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup semi final double header at Jubilee Park, Ballachulish. However Camanachd Association officials decided on Friday 14 August 2009 that Jubilee Park was unlikely to with-stand 2 matches following the heavy west coast rain at the end of the week so the Kingussie, Kyles Athletic semi final was switched to An Aird..
On Saturday afternoon, it became clear that An Aird was unplayable as it was waterlogged. However the overnight conditions at Ballachulish suggested that 2 matches might in fact be possible at Jubilee Park after all.
Therefore the semi final was rescheduled for Jubilee Park with a 5pm throw up to allow both teams sufficient warm up times.
A Ronald Ross double put the Kings 2-0 up but a Colin MacDonald strike reduced their advantage. Ross completed a first half hat-trick to give the 2008 runners up a 3-1 half time lead. Ross took his and Kingussie's tally to 4 into the second half.
Kyles lost Roddy MacDonald just after the hour mark to a head knock. Conditions were difficult from the outset and after 65 minutes, referee Charles Young decided that conditions had deteriorated further and he abandoned the match.
Neither side felt that the game should have gone ahead in the first place. However the early end to the tie certainly favoured Kyles who were unlikely to recover the 4-1 deficit in the final 25 minutes. Kingussie were left feeling very frustrated by the decision and felt that as conditions had been poor throughout, the match should have been played to a conclusion.
A new date for this semi final will be set shortly by the Camanachd Association with Saturday 5 August 2009 looking favourite.
