Glengarry 0 Skye Camanachd 2. | |
09 August 2009 There were 7 changes to the Skye Camanachd second team squad to play Glengarry at Invergarry in Marine Harvest North Division 2 on Saturday 8 August 2009.
A combination of work commitments, a family wedding, the Belladrum Music Festival, and the Isle of Skye Agricultural Show meant Skye Camanachd second team manager Davie MacVicar was without Scott MacLeod, Andrew Banks, Neil John Campbell, Scott Martin, Kieran Roberts, Angie MacDonald, and Robert Urquhart.
Defender Iain Urquhart remained unavailable as did Iain MacPherson and Paul MacKinnon. The Grant brothers – Stewart and Iain – were still on holiday.
However with no first team game, Iain Nicolson, Shockie MacLennan, and Danny Morrison were available for selection. Iain Munro and Eoghan Stewart were also called into the squad. Donnie Campbell was a Saturday morning call-off as he was required for a mountain rescue search so MacVicar was forced to add himself to the squad and he started at full forward. The long grass on the Invergarry pitch made hitting difficult but it was Skye who had early chances when Davie MacVicar shot wide and Allan MacKinnon’s path to goal was blocked by Garry keeper Mathew Clark. However it wasn’t all one-way traffic and Skye keeper Iain Munro saved well from Steven Cameron before turning a Neil MacRae effort away for a corner. On 37 minutes Munro made a fantastic diving save to his right to stop a Stuart Gregory shot with his stick and prevent the home side taking the lead. From the resultant corner, Munro saved well with his legs from Gregory again. These saves were to prove vital as Skye took the lead on 41 minutes. Neil MacVicar played a ball from midfield to Allan MacKinnon on the Skye left. MacKinnon crossed to Danny Morrison who beat his marker and confidently slotted the ball into the net. Glengarry started the second half strongly and Steven Cameron shot wide in the opening minute. Skye responded on 51 minutes when Shockie MacLennan played in Peter Gordon who in turn found Danny Morrison. Morrison’s effort was heading for the back of the net but On 57 minutes Glengarry’s Andrew Paterson was spoken to for a wild swing at Danny Morrison. However Skye were unable to capitalise from the resultant free hit. After 62 minutes, Skye were awarded a free hit when Daniel MacLennan fouled Shockie MacLennan. Glengarry cleared the resultant free hit for a corner. Neil MacVicar, who had a great second half, fired the corner into the danger area and Peter Gordon smashed a controlled backhand shot low into the net to give Skye a 2-0. Garry’s Daniel MacLennan was booked by referee Graham Cameron for one foul too many when he shoved Allan MacKinnon on 67 minutes. Shockie MacLennan found Peter Gordon from the free hit and Gordon’s shot went just over. Skye’s Iain Nicolson put in a man of the match performance and he shackled Glengarry danger-man Steven Cameron throughout the game. Iain Morrison also put in a sound performance at wing back and Danny Morrison was always a threat in front of goal. This is a welcome 2 points for Skye as it puts daylight between themselves and Kilmallie, Caberfeidh and Kinlochshiel in the bottom half of the table. It was also the second consecutive match where they kept a clean sheet.
