02 August 2009 Lovat were without Greg Matheson and Martin Anderson for the Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup Final between at Inveraray won the midweek fixture in the Scottish Hydro Premier Division when they beat The match of the day was at An Aird, where Ronald Ross has scored all of Kingussie’s last 13 goals and his hat-trick against bottom club Glenorchy at Dalmally took his tally to 15 goals in his last 4 matches. This was the season’s first encounter between the sides and was played in very heavy conditions. Ross scored a first half double but Kieran MacKay pulled a goal back for the home side before the break. However Ross completed his hat-trick late in the second half to take the reigning champions to the top of the league. It was a good week for Inveraray as they followed up their midweek win over The clash between Lochaber and Bute finished goalless which leaves the Skye Camanachd’s Marine Harvest North Division 1 title hopes suffered a blow when they lost 2-1 to Beauly at A Kirk Taylor double keep up Caberfeidh’s title challenge when they beat Lochcarron 2-0 at Battery Park. A Liam MacDonald hat-trick helped Kilmallie to a 5-2 win over Kinlochshiel at Kirkton. Trevor Jackson and Peter MacIntyre scored the others whilst Scott MacLean and John MacRae replied for the home side. Kilmory missed the chance to close the lead on Marine Harvest South Division 1 leaders Lochside Rovers as their match against Tayforth does not go ahead. Oban Celtic came out on top in a thrilling Friday night encounter with Inveraray at Winterton. Lee Askew gave Celtic the lead after 8 minutes and Alan Miller made it 2-0 after 19 minutes. John Turnbull made it 3-0 after 28 minutes. Miller completed his hat-trick with a brace after 32 and 35 minutes and Lee Askew netted his second after 39 minutes. Russell MacKinlay pulled a goal back for Inveraray 3 minutes before the break to make the half time score 6-1 to the visitors. Inveraray rallied in the second half with goals from Lewis MacNicol after 47 minutes and Russell MacKinlay’s second after 65 minutes. Lee Askew completed his hat-trick a minute later to score Celtic’s seventh and MacKinlay scored his third and Inveraray’s fourth after 71 minutes to make the final score 7-4. Ballachulish went down 7-1 at Yoker against third place Glasgow Mid Argyll. The Marine Harvest North Division 2 league leaders Glenurquhart had a convincing 6-2 win over Kilmallie at Canal Parks to go 3 points clear at the top of the table. Second place Kingussie were held to a surprise 2-2 draw against bottom club Kinlochshiel at Kirkton. The Kings took and experienced line up west with Davie Anderson, Davie Borthwick, Michael Clark and Ricky Grant in their ranks. The home side had Ian Cameron to thank for another great goalkeeping display. Duncan MacRae put Shiel ahead after 37 minutes only for Davie Anderson to level a couple of minutes after the break. Graham MacRae regained the lead for Shiel 10 minutes into the second half and they almost held on for a surprise win but the Kings had pushed full back Davie Borthwick forward and he snatched the equaliser 2 minutes from the end. Skye Camanachd took the lead against Caberfeidh after 14 minutes in Portree when Scott Martin won the ball in midfield and played in Kieran Roberts on the left. Roberts sent a deep cross into the penalty area where Iain Morrison pounced to crash an unstoppable shot past Caber’s keeper Martin MacLean into the roof of the net. Skye extended their advantage after 33 minutes when Jamie Nicolson played in Angie MacDonald and the full forward found space with his back to goal and turned to crack the ball into the net. Skye went 3-0 ahead 6 minutes before the break when some keepy-upy from Angie MacDonald attracted the attentions of 3 Cabers defenders which allowed Kieran Roberts to find space on the left. MacDonald flicked the ball to Roberts who maintained his recent scoring spree by tucking the ball past MacLean to give Skye a 3-0 interval lead. This was 2 important points for the Islanders who were 4-3 winners when the sides met at Castle Leod earlier in the season. Marine Harvest South Division 2 leaders Taynuilt, inspired by 5 goal Fraser Inglis, had an 8-2 win over third placed Col Glen. Inglis opened his account after only 2 minutes and only for Ronnie MacVicar to level on 24 minutes. D Campbell regained Taynuilt’s lead a minute later and K MacKechnie made it 3-1 on the half hour mark. Willie Neilson extended the home club’s lead 3 minutes later and Inglis completed a first half hat-trick with goals in 36 and 40 minutes to give Taynuilt a 6-1 interval lead. Inglis made it 7-1 after 62 minutes but H Harrison pulled a goal back on 70 minutes. Inglis completed a successful day for him and his side with his fifth goal 8 minutes from the end. Taynuilt have now extended their lead at the top of the table to 5 points as second placed Strachur were not in action. Glasgow Mid Argyll and Kyles Athletic ran out 6-0 winners Aberdour at Tigh na Bruach. Ally MacKay and Gordon MacIntyre both hit doubles and Sandy MacVicar and an own goal completed the scoring. Marine Harvest North Division 3 league leaders Lochbroom were not in action which gave Beauly and Third place Beauly had no such slip up when they travelled to Ardnamurchan and won 11-3. A David Robertson double and an own goal were the home team’s scorers but doubles from Iain MacFarlane, Danny Marshall, Terry MacAllister and Jack MacDonald and singles from David Grolt, Martin MacFadyen, and Scott MacLean put Beauly within a point of leaders Lochbroom. Lochcarron went behind to a Stuart MacRae strike after 24 minutes against Fourth place Lochaber were awarded the points as Kincraig were unable to raise a team for their match at
