29 July 2009 Skye Camanachd nominated 8 players to join 59 of the country’s brightest young shinty prospects at Skye Camanachd players Neil MacVicar, Martin Bruce, Iain Morrison, Neil John Campbell, Iain Grant, Scott MacLeod, Jordan Murchison, and Daniel Morrison attended the Scottish Hydro National Player Development Camp from Sunday 19 July 2009 to Friday 24 July 2009. However injury forced Martin Bruce and Iain Morrison to return home early. They were part of 67 young shinty players aged between 15 and 17 who were put through their paces under the guidance of Kingussie Camanachd player and Shinty Development Officer for the Each player had been nominated by their youth or senior club to take part in the annual Camp which is designed to offer the very best in training and guidance to promising players. Throughout the week the players received training from Camanachd Association coaches on training techniques related to hitting dribbling and tackling there were a number of challenges set to test what they learned. In addition to practical skills, the camp attendees also met with Scotland International coach Fraser Mackenzie and a sports coach A number of awards were presented at the end of the week by Douglas Flowers, Sponsorship Account Manager for Scottish Hydro. Camp organiser, Ronald Ross said, “The aim of the Scottish Hydro National Player Development Camp is to help the players improve all aspects of their game including the technical, physical and tactical elements of the sport. There is also a valuable social aspect to the camp where young people can meet other players from different parts of the country. The week is a real learning experience for all the players and they all leave with a number of new skills which they can apply to their own team games and training.” Douglas Flowers, Sponsorship Account Manager for Scottish Hydro, commented: “We are delighted to support the National Player Development Camp.
