Skye Camanachd 2 Newtonmore 2. | |
11 July 2009 Skye Camanachd and Newtonmore shared the points on Saturday 11 July 2009 in their Marine Harvest North Division 2 clash at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. Shockie MacLennan, Iain Urquhart, Iain Grant, Iain Munro and Daniel Morrison all dropped out of the squad for various reasons following last weeks defeat at Lovat but Jamie MacDonald came in a buckshee back with Andrew Banks moving to full back ahead of Scott MacLeod in goal. Martin Bruce and Neil John Campbell took up the wing back positions. Kerr Gibb played full centre with Iain MacPherson and Scott Martin on the wings. Allan MacKinnon and Iain Morrison joined Danny Morrison and captain Kieran Roberts in the forward line. Robert Urquhart, Neil MacVicar and Jordan Murchison started on the bench. After some good early exchanges, it was Newtonmore who drew first blood when Mark MacDonald fired a shot from the right across keeper Scott MacLeod into the net. Almost straight from the throw up, ‘More doubled their lead when full forward David Wilde received a chest high pass with his back to goal, flicked the ball and turned and sent a sensational volley into the net. It was a strike that earned applause from the ‘More support and the Skye fans who could appreciate such a fine goal. ‘More pressed and Scott MacLeod saved well with an outstretched foot. Skye could easily have folded at this stage but they responded in style when Danny Morrison played a one-two with Allan MacKinnon and he found Kieran Roberts who fired the ball low into the net. Just before half time, Allan MacKinnon slipped his marker and sent a backhand bullet past Skye were first to threaten in the second half when a Danny Morrison shot hit the outside of the post. Scott MacLeod came to the Islanders rescue with a couple of neat saves in quick succession. Skye introduced Neil MacVicar into the centre line and his presence boosted Skye at an important stage in the game. Allan MacKinnon always looked dangerous for Skye and Iain Morrison was also inventive in attack whilst ‘More’s John MacKenzie had a great tussle with Kerr Gibb in the middle of the park. Newtonmore moved Andy MacDonald into attack and his tricky wing play kept Martin Bruce on his toes for the remainder of the game. Skye were intent on grabbing a winner and a flowing move saw substitutes Robert Urquhart and Jordan Murchison combine to play in Danny Morrison who fired into the side net. With 6 minutes left ‘More attacked and Scott MacLeod saved well from a corner before clearing at the second attempt. A Danny Morrison strike 3 minutes from the end was saved by Gray and after an end-to-end tussle, the teams had to settle for a point each. Skye were particularly well served by Andrew Banks and Jamie MacDonald in defence.
