The Shinty Preview. | |
09 July 2009 Most of the senior sides return to league action on Saturday 11 July 2009. Scottish Hydro National Premier Division leaders Kingussie and Glenurquhart also meet again at the Dell for the second consecutive week. The Kings will still be without the injured Ally Borthwick and they will make a late decision on Ronald Ross’ fitness. Glenurquhart will have Lewis MacLennan back from suspension. Unbeaten Newtonmore travel to Tigh na Bruach to play Kyles Athletic. The sides drew at the Eilan earlier in the season and this will likely be another close affair. Newtonmore had a narrow 4-3 win at Oban Camanachd host Glenorchy at Mossfield. Oban won 3-0 at Dalmally 4 weeks ago and a similar outcome is likely this time. The sides also met last weekend in the MacPhee & Partners Macaulay Cup – the third senior match which copies last week’s fixtures and Oban won this one also. This match has a 6pm throw up. Strathglass know that there will be no room for error when Caberfeidh will also be favourites when Lochcarron make the short trip to Castle Leod. The visitors are boosted by Michael Cooper’s return. In Marine Harvest South Division 1, Lochside Rovers have the ideal chance to bounce back from last week’s loss to Kilmory - their first league defeat of the season – when they have a derby clash with Oban Celtic. Kilmory also have a derby to look forward to when the host Inveraray. Tayforth make the trip to Ballachulish boosted by their first victory of the season last weekend. Lovat have home advantage in their Sutherland Cup semi final against Kyles Athletic. The Balgate side will be without the suspended Martin Mainland but they do have the option of using some of their fringe first team players as their senior side does not have a game. Newtonmore’s trip to Pairc na Laoch, Portree in Marine Harvest North Division 2 will now throw up at 2.30pm as the Skye, Lovat first team match is not going ahead. Only a point separates the sides in the league and Skye will miss Shockie MacLennan who is unavailable. Kingussie host Caberfeidh and this match has a noon throw up. Cabers have won their last 2 league games but the Kings will provide a difficult test. Marine Harvest South Division 2 leaders Taynuilt travel to Yoker to play Glasgow Mid Argyll. Taynuilt won 6-2 when the sides play earlier in the season and they should be too strong again, especially with forward Willie Neilson in fine form. Second place Strachur travel to third place Col Glen in the league’s match of the day. The sides shared a goalless draw earlier in the season. Aberdour will have an early start as they travel to Ballachulish for a 12 noon throw up. Marine Harvest North Division 3 leaders Second place Lochbroom make the short journey to Battery Park to play Lochcarron.
