Skye Camanachd’s Donnie Campbell will run the West Highland Way for California Project.
His treck will start at 8pm on Thursday 9 July 2009 to help raise funds for Skye Camanachd’s Cuairt gu California in August 2009 and September 2009 of this year. For £2, supporters can guess his time for the run and the closest guess will receive the prize fund which is a minimum of £100. The prize fund will be shared if there is more than one correct entry.
Campbell has been an important part of the Skye Camanachd’s success this year, training the large numbers of players who live in Glasgow through the winter and taking warm-ups and cool-downs in recent weeks. In the spring he finished 4th in the Scottish Ultra marathon around Islay and Jura.
Skye Camanachd’s players will spend two weeks in California promoting shinty and Gaelic culture with the pinnacle of the project an exhibition match at the Pleasanton Highland Games on the 5 and 6 September 2009. The trip will strengthen cultural and business links with Northern California.
