Skye Camanachd B Come Out On Top In U14 Development Games. | |
20 June 2009 Skye Camanachd U14 B won both their Development matches as the second round of games took place in Lochcarron on Friday 19 June 2009. Skye Camanachd B opened against the home side Lochcarron and despite some good attacking play; the Islanders were unable to break down a Lochcarron team who had their fair share of first half chances. Sky started the second half brightly and Will Cowie’s opener was quickly doubled with a well taken goal from Kyle Pirie after good lead up play from Angie MacPherson. Cowie added a third from the penalty spot and Andrew Grant knocked in a great long range effort to make the final score 4-0. Skye then took on Uist and started strongly. The Uibhistich were willing, the combination of Willie Cowie and Andrew Grant pulled defenders out and Skye exploited the space. Cowie and Grant took turns at scoring as Skye moved into a 4-0 lead. Angie MacPherson scored a fifth just before half time with a backhand looping shot. Uist started the second half strongly with the influential Ewen Campbell moving from full back to a more effective full centre role. Uist got their reward for a succession of promising attacks Seumas Boyle outfoxed the Skye defence to notch a nice effort past Iain MacLeod in the Skye goal. However the final say in the match came from the caman of one of Skye B’s most dedicated trainers when Iain MacPherson who made the final score 6-1. The final match between Lochcarron and Uist was extremely competitive and Uist, with Ewen Campbell excellent in midfield, took an early lead through Craig Erskine. Lochcarron levelled before half time and Uist were to rue some missed opportunities in front of goal when the home side took the lead with only a few minutes remaining. Lochcarron scored a couple of late goals which made the 4-1 final score a bit harsh of the Islanders. The final round of matches between the sides will take place in Uist in August. Thanks are due to the volunteers at Lochcarron Camanachd who provided excellent hospitality as usual.
