A good first half performance helped Skye Camanachd A U14 to a 6-1 win over Kinlochshiel in their Wester Ross Local League clash at Kirkton on Friday 12 June 2009.
The Skye youngsters were solid at the back, competitive in midfield and the forwards always looking dangerous.
Skye opened the scoring after 5 minutes when a pass from right half forward Scott MacDonald found captain Jordan Murchison and he finished with a clever volley.
Skye doubled their lead after 8 minutes when Will Cowie turned his marker and fired a low shot into the bottom corner of the net.
After 15 minutes a good strike by Stuart MacSween was blocked and Jordan Murchison scored from close range.
Five minutes later a great pass from full centre Chris MacLennan picked out Jordan Murchison who drilled the ball home to complete his hat-trick.
On the half hour mark, Murchison fed the ball to Will Cowie who scored with a super backhand volley from 25 yards to make the interval score 5-0 to the Islanders.
The second half was much more even with Shiel playing for pride and Skye happy to consolidate their advantage. Shiel pulled a goal back 20 minutes into the second half through a great Jordan Fraser strike which gave Euan Forrest in the Skye goal no chance.
Skye had several efforts in the second period by Murchison, Cowie and substitute Connor Henderson but good defending and goal keeping kept the Skye forwards in check.
Just a couple of minutes from the end the ball broke to Mark Mortimer 20 yards from goal and he completed the scoring with a backhand strike that flew high into the net.
The Skye defence of Shaun Hedley, Calum Gibb, Ruairidh Morrison and Johnnie MacDonald all played particularly well. In midfield Chris MacLennan was more than a match for Donald Nixon and Magnus Burd was solid throughout.
Murchison and Cowie were the pick of the forwards with their ability to put the ball in the back of the net. They were well assisted by Stuart MacSween.
This victory means that Skye Camanachd A top the Wester Ross Local League and go on to play in North Division 1 which they won in 2008.
