08 June 2009 Three of the four Camanachd Cup semi finalists are now known following the fixtures played on Saturday 6 June 2009. Camanachd Cup holders A new date will be set for the Oban Camanachd, Kyles Athletic tie. Kingussie had a somewhat easier passage into the last four against their Marine Harvest North Division 1 opponents Lovat at Balgate. Captain Russell Dallas put the Kings ahead after 9 minutes and 2 goals in 2 minutes from Kevin Thain after 17 minutes and Paul Gow after 18 minutes extended the visitors lead. It took Ronald Ross 25 minutes to open his account and he fired in a second 3 minutes later. He completed his hat-trick after 40 minutes but to Lovat’s credit, John White pulled a goal back to make the interval score 6-1. Ten minutes into the second half, Ross scored his fourth goal and his fifth arrived 5 minutes later. Ross scored his sixth after 82 minutes to make the score 9-1 and this was the second week in a row that the game’s leading marksman scored 6 goals. Kevin Thain scored his second a minute later to take last year’s finalists into double figures. There were also 11 goals scored when Inveraray visited Glenurquhart go level with Newtonmore moved into fourth place on goal difference with a 5-0 win against Glenorchy at Dalmally. David Cheyne grabbed a hat-trick and Chris Sellar and Evan Menzies also found the net. This was ‘More’s first league match since mid April so they will be pleased to be racking up the points again. Glenorchy remain at the bottom of the table wit only two points from their eight games. Skye Camanachd go 5 points clear at the top of Marine Harvest North Division 1 following their 3-1 win over Beauly returned from Canal Parks with both points after a fine 5-2 win over Kilmallie. John Stewart gave the home side the lead after 12 minutes but Jamie MacLennan levelled after 19 minutes. S Stewart gave Beauly the lead 2 minutes later and Conor Ross made it 3-1 on 26 minutes. Jamie MacLennan scored his second after 31 minutes and Barrie MacDonald completed a great first half and 5 goals in 17 minutes for Beauly with a strike in 36 minutes. Kilmallie did pull a goal back 5 minutes from the end with John Stewart’s second goal of the game but it wasn’t enough. Kilmallie remain in second place, 5 points behind Skye but they do have 3 games in hand. Strathglass raced into a 2 goal lead against Lochcarron at Battery Park and although the home side pulled the scores level, Strathglass scored late to win both points. Kilmory had a straight forward 4-0 win over Tayforth in Ballachulish won 4-1 in Oban against Oban Celtic. After a goalless first half, Grant MacKenzie gave the visitors the lead just 3 minutes after the break. Alan Miller equalised on 72 minutes but Davie MacPhee restored Ballachulish’s advantage 4 minutes later. MacKenzie scored his second on 83 minutes and MacPhee did like-wise 2 minutes late. Ballachulish move into second place. The Strathdearn Cup semi finalists have now been decided and favourites Fort William had a comfortable 5-0 win over Marine Harvest North Division 3 side Beauly at Lovat continued their good form of late with a 6-1 win over Kilmallie at Balgate. Jimmy MacKenzie gave them the lead after 8 minutes only for Craig MacPhee to level the score after 15 minutes. The match remained 1-1 until 3 minutes into the second half when Martin Anderson put Lovat ahead. MacKenzie scored his second on the hour mark and Owen Ferguson made it 4-1 just 5 minutes later. Allan MacRae scored in 82 minutes and MacKenzie completed his hat-trick a minute later. Kingussie won an 8 goal thriller against Glengarry at the Dell. Glengarry scored through Steven Brady, Kenny Henderson and Andrew Paterson but it wasn’t enough. Rory Borthwick scored twice and goals from Liam MacDonald, veteran Davie Anderson and an own goal gave the Kings a 5-3 win. Newtonmore had a convincing 9-1 win over Lochcarron at Battery Park. A Duncan Simpson hat-trick wasn’t enough as Col Glen went down to Aberdour by the same score. A James Hamilton double and a goal from veteran Ronnie MacVicar found the net for the home side but goals from Alec Mitchell twice, and Andy Mathie and Lewis Nicol saw Aberdour through to the last four. Glenorchy upset the odds with a 2-1 win over Taynuilt at Dalmally. This was a shock as Glenorchy are second bottom in Marine Harvest North Division 2 whilst Taynuilt are second top. The Kyles Athletic, Inveraray tie will be played at a later date. In the only match played in Marine Harvest North Division 2, Glenurquhart extended their lead with a 3-0 win over Kinlochshiel at Blairbeg. All the goals came in the second half through Calum Fraser, a Stuart Morrison penalty and another penalty from Ewan Brady. Glasgow Mid Argyll had a convincing 6-1 win over bottom club Ballachulish in Marine Harvest South Division 2. Lochbroom go top of Marine Harvest North Division 3 on goal difference following their 4-1 home win over Lochaber. Cammie MacRae gave them the lead after 26 minutes but Keith Neville levelled for the Spean Bridge side 5 minutes later to make the interval score 1-1. Aaron Matheson put the home side ahead after 65 minutes and 2 goals in 3 minutes from Seamus Nairn in 83 minutes and Sandy Urquhart on 85 minutes made the final score 4-1. Strathglass moved into fifth place with a 4-0 win over Ardnamurchan. Raymond Fraser scored a hat-trick and Josh Fraser got the other. |
