Skye Camanachd Chairman Ross Cowie Is Named Citizen of the Year. | |
05 June 2009 Skye Camanachd Chairman Ross Cowie has been awarded the Maurice Nicholl Memorial Trophy and named Citizen of the Year by Portree and District Rotary Club. Cowie was nominated for the award by Portree Community Council for his community work over many years. He was a founder member of the Portree Community Centre and former player and manager of Portree United during their most successful period in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He is probably best known for his contribution to Skye Camanachd both as a player and manager. He has Sutherland Cup successes to his name in both capacities and he was most famously the first team manager when Skye Camanachd won the coveted Camanachd Cup in 1990 for the one and only time in their 117 year history. He more recently set up Lucky2bhere which continues to carry out fund raising events in order to purchase life-saving heart defibrillators throughout the He was presented with the award at the Rotary Club’s 16th Annual Awards Dinner. |
