19 May 2009 The MacTavish Cup semi finals take centre stage on Saturday 23 May 2009. Newtonmore will look to get over the disappointment of last week’s Camanachd Cup exit when they host Kingussie will start as favourites when they visit Balgate to take on Marine Harvest North Division 1 side Lovat in the other semi final. The challenge for Lovat will be to cut off the supply to Ronald Ross whilst ensuring that their own forward line see enough of the ball. The final Camanachd Cup quarter final place will be decided when Lochcarron make the long journey to Glenurquhart host Glenorchy at Drum na Drochit in the National Premier League. The sides drew 1-1 at Dalmally earlier in the season and the Glen will hope that home advantage makes the difference for them. They have struggled to find the right combination up front this season although youngster Billy Urquhart does seem to know where the goal is. Lochaber will look to get back on winning ways when the play Inveraray at Oban Camanachd take on Kyles Athletic at Mossfield in the Celtic Society Cup. The sides have not met in the league yet this season and they sit equal third place in the top division. This will likely be a close affair. Marine Harvest North Division 1 leaders Skye Camanachd travel to Castle Leod to play Caberfeidh. This is the first of two back to back league clashes between the sides but Skye will be looking no further that this week’s visit to Castle Leod which is always a difficult place to go. Second placed Kilmallie play Inverness at Kinlochshiel will look to recover from last week’s defeat to Skye when they play Beauly at Kirkton. The sides drew 1-1 at Top plays bottom in Marine Harvest South Division 1 as leaders Lochside Rovers host Tayforth. The Oban side won 5-2 in Glasgow Mid Argyll will hope to continue last week’s good form when Oban Celtic visit Yoker. Fifth placed Ballachulish host sixth place Kilmory. Marine Harvest North Division 2 leaders Glenurquhart travel to Portree to take on Skye Camanachd. The Glen beat the Islanders 3-0 at Drum na Drochit and their league form is impressive as they have only dropped one point in their 8 league games. Col Glen host Glenorchy in Marine Harvest South Division 2. Inverness play Ardnamurchan at The Strathdearn Cup has reached the last 16 stage. Lochaber suffered a heavy defeat on league duty last weekend and they will want to put that behind them when they play Lochcarron at Lovat travel to Kirkton to face Kinlochshiel in another all-Division 2 clash. Shiel have lost all 4 of their league games this season whilst Lovat have been on a good run of form. This match throws up at 12 noon. North Division 3 second placed side Lochbroom host Kingussie who are in the league above. The Kings cup form has been mixed but they should be strong enough to win through. Boleskine face a similarly tough task when they host Kilmallie as do North Division 3 side Strathglass who host Newtonmore. Kincraig travel to North Division 3 leaders The Bullough Cup quarter finals also take place and the most interesting tie will be between the Forces side The Scots who play Aberdour at Inveraray. The Scots were very unlucky to go down 2-1 to Kinlochshiel at Kirkton in an earlier cup competition so Aberdour will find them a tough nut to crack. The tie between Strachur and Taynuilt should also be a cracker. Glasgow Mid Argyll travel to North Division 2 bottom side Ballachulish will find it tough when they host Inveraray who are in a league above. This match throws up at 12 noon. |
