Camanachd Association President Looks To Clubs For New Directors. | |
15 April 2009 The BBC is reporting that Camanachd Association president Duncan Cameron is seeking to assimilate a new board of directors from shinty's clubs amid turmoil in the governing body. Four directors have quit the association in recent weeks prompting Cameron to launch a recruitment drive ahead of their AGM on 24 April. "We've identified a number of individuals but we've got to persuade them to join us," Cameron said. "They will be co-opted initially but will have to stand for election." Cameron explained to BBC Scotland: "Part of the problem that we've got in shinty is that people who we think might be suitable to be directors are fully committed with a club. "They don't want to give up that commitment in order to work with the Association." The Camanachd Association, which has ruled the sport for almost 116 years, has been rocked in the past week by the back-to-back resignations of their chief executive Gill MacDonald and director of competitions David McMaster. Stuart Ferrier and Alexander Menzies followed Donnie Mackenzie in vacating their positions at the start of the year over concerns about the way the sport was being governed. Cameron continued: "The (new directors) won't be in place until after the AGM, they'll be co-opted. "The club's then get their opportunity to vote, bearing in mind that the clubs have already had an opportunity this year. What we're talking about here is filling vacancies that weren't filled as a result of calling for nominations." To hear Duncan Cameron speak to the BBC, click on the link below. |
