Skye Camanachd 3 Lovat 5. | |
29 March 2009 It was Lovat who came out on top in this North Division 2 eight goal thriller at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 28 March 2009. Lovat got off to the best possible start when Jamie Matheson gave them the lead after only 3 minutes. However Skye fought their way back into the game and Angie MacDonald danced through the Lovat defence and tucked the ball into the net after 28 minutes. Just a couple of minutes later, 16 year old Iain Morrison sent a rocket shot into the roof of the net to put the home side ahead. Lovat’s Jimmy MacKenzie drew the teams level after 38 minutes when the ball broke to him in front of goal to leave the match all square at the break. Lovat regained the lead 10 minutes into the second half through Steven Cameron but Skye fought back again with Iain Morrison scoring his second to level the match at 3-3. The game was end to end at this stage with both sides having chances. Ross Graham in the Skye game made a couple of good saves and the Skye forwards seemed hesitant to fire at goal at the other end. Lovat took the lead after 70 minutes from the penalty spot when a Skye defender was adjudged to have kicked the ball by referee Innes Wood. Steven Cameron didn’t quite catch the penalty properly but his hit was accurate enough to find the bottom left corner of Graham’s net. Jimmy MacKenzie clinched the points for Lovat when a poor clearance from the Skye defence fell to him 15 yards from goal and he made no mistake. The win moves Lovat into second place in the league, a point behind leaders Glenurquhart whilst Skye travel to Castle Leod next week to take on bottom club Caberfeidh with both sides looking for their first points of the season.
