North Skye playmaker John Gillies was selected as the P4-5 National First Shinty Festival Player of the Tournament in Fort William on Saturday 21 March 2009.
Young John, who’s father John Angus Gillies was a Camanachd Cup winner with Skye Camanachd in 1990, had a great tournament and he was also an important player for North Skye in the qualifying competition for the finals.
John scored a hat-trick in the final in which his side eventually lost out to Tomnacross by a goalden goal after the match finished 3-3.
This is a notable double for Skye shinty as Portree Primary School’s Willie Cowie was named P6-7 National First Shinty Festival Player of the Tournament when Portree won the competition a few of weeks ago.
