01 March 2009 The final pre-season friendlies ahead of the new shinty season were played on Saturday 28 February 2009. Camanachd Cup winners National Premier League side Lochaber travelled to draw 3-3 with North Division 1 opponents Caberfeidh. Skye Camanachd’s trip to face Oban Camanachd fell foul of the weather. Newtonmore held their annual open day at the Eilan and celebrated with an emphatic 7-0 victory over North Division 1 side Beauly. David Cheyne hit a hat-trick and Paul MacArthur hit a double Young Rory Kennedy and Norman Campbell were the other scorers. Rivals Kingussie did not have a game. Glenorchy continued their good pre-season as they made the trip to Cannich to play Strathglass. They ran out 4-3 winners in an exciting match to win the Murdo Mackenzie Memorial Cup. This was the clubs last friendly fixtures before the season starts on 7 March 2009. |
