Reception For John The Caley - An Open Invitation. | |
04 January 2009 The Highland Council is holding a Civic Reception to mark the granting of the Freedom of Skye to Mr John Nicolson on Friday 9 January 2009. “John The Caley” as he is better known follows Sorley MacLean, David Noble, Dr John Ball and Dame Ellen MacArthur in receiving this great honour. John has been involved with Skye Camanachd since the 1970s and has filled most posts at the club. He is an honourary Vice President, and a former Chieftain, Chairman and Committee member and has looked after pitch maintenance for many years. John was presented with a silver mounted caman by Skye Camanachd in 2000 for his sterling efforts over many seasons for the club. He still plays a very important role fixing shinty sticks. John will often repair several camans each week for first and second team players, youth players and even primary school players. Shinty sticks cost in the region of £35 each so this is a great saving to Skye Camanachd. The Civic reception will take place at the Skye Camanachd Clubhouse on Friday 9 January 2009 with a 7.30pm prompt start. There will be a buffet and music from local artists including Blair Douglas and Arthur Cormack as well as the official presentation. This is a much deserved honour and all at Skye Camanachd pass on their warmest congratulations to John.
It has been very difficult to select who should be invited to attend such an event as numbers are obviously limited. John has clearly been involved with many groups and individuals over the years. Therefore there is an open invitation for anyone to join the celebrations at the Skye Camanachd Clubhouse from 9pm onwards to celebrate John's award. |
