16 December 2008 The First Round of the 2009 MacTavish Cup has thrown up some interesting ties. Skye Camanachd face the unenviable task of a trip to An Aird to face MacTavish Cup holders Kingussie travel to the West Coast to take on Kinlochshiel at Kirkton. The Kings will be favourites to progress but they will know that they have been in a game by the time this tie is over. In an exact repeat of their Camanachd Cup first round draw, Lovat will again host Strathglass. Both teams were relegated from the National Premier League in 2008 and their early season form will be a clearer indicator as to how this one finishes up. Newtonmore have been given a home tie against North Division 1 side Kilmallie. The Cups will be More’s best chance of success this season and they should be too strong for Kilmallie. Caberfeidh will find it difficult against Premier League side Lochaber. With former Beauly make the short trip to the Bught to face Glenurquhart and Lochcarron both received first round byes.
