16 December 2008 The preliminary round and first round of the 2009 Scottish Hydro Electric Camanachd Cup draws give the Marine Harvest North and South Division 1 sides a chance to progress and take on the National Premier League sides in the second round of the competition. The Preliminary Round match on The tie of the first round sees the sides who were relegated from the National Premier League in 2008 – Lovat and Strathglass - meet at Balgate. Both sides should be contenders for promotion back to the Premier League and at this stage; this tie is almost too close to call. With no replays, it may take extra time to separate the teams. There’s also a repeat of the 2008 Balliemore Cup Final as Kilmallie make the journey to Portree to face Skye Camanachd. Although they lost the Balliemore Final, Kilmallie had a convincing 3-0 win in Portree at the end of the 2008 season and they ran Glenurquhart close for the League title. Skye know that they will need a good performance to win through. Beauly will be looking for a Camanachd Cup run after what was a disappointing 2008 by their recent standards and they should successfully come through a trip to Ballachullish. Kinlochshiel travel to the Highland capital and will be favourites to beat The First Round matches will be played on Predictions for Round 2 and a place in the last 16 are; Beauly, Skye Camanachd, Kinlochshiel, Caberfeidh, Lochcarron and Strathglass.
