Scotland U17 20 Ulster U17 12. | |
01 November 2008 The Scotland U17 side ran out 20-12 winners over Ulster in their shinty / hurling clash at Mossfield on Saturday 1 November 2008. Scotland were without prolific forward Mark Maclaughlin who was in action for Strathglass in their vital Marine Harvest National Premier League clash with Bute. However this didn't not affect their performance in front of goal as Lochaber's Ben Delaney hit a hat-trick and his Spean Bridge team mate Zander Ferguson also found the net. Fort William's Alex Duncan and Glenurquhart's Neal Reid also found the scored for the Scots. Zander Ferguson and Ben Delaney scored individual points to complete the scoring. It was also interesting that the composite rules were amended for this match to allow the Irish to kick the ball and a dead ball strike over the bar only earned one point rather than two. These changes favoured the Irish and made the Scottish win all the more impressive. Many at the game also felt that the changes let the game flow more than the senior rules.
