Beauly U14 1 Skye Camanachd U14 0. | |
01 November 2008 It was a case of what might have been for the Skye Camanachd U14s when they went down to a single goal defeat against Beauly in their North Division 1 match at Pairc nan Laoch on Saturday 1 November 2008. Skye had the best of the early pressure and Beauly keeper Neil Brennan saved well from a great Willie Cowie strike and a Calum Gibb snapshot. The match was level at the break and it was Beauly who made the better start to the second half. It was then the turn of Skye keeper Ally MacLeod to make a couple of good save. Willie Cowie had another great strike 15 minutes into the second half but with keeper Brannan beaten, the ball came back of the crossbar. However it was Beauly who made the vital break-through when North U14 forward Jack MacDonald burst through the Skye defence to score what proved to be the winner. Skye had further chances, including two incredible goal mouth scrambles and a shot just past from Cowie but they couldn't get the vital goal. Skye missed the presence of full forward John Gillies who was unavailable. Skye took Ally MacLeod out of goal and played him in the centre line in a last throw of the dice. Ewen Forrest came on in goal. Chris MacLennan did have the ball in the net in the closing minutes but referee Iain "Crossal" Nicolson had already blown for an earlier foul on a Skye player. Best for Skye on a disappointing day were the defensive unit of Iain Grant, Ruairidh Morrison, Shaun Hedley and Scott Macleod who were solid throughout and forwards Jordan Murchison and Willie Cowie. Beauly were strong down the middle with Ryan Stewart, Scott MacLeod and scorer Jack MacDonald catching the eye. Skye Camanachd from; Ally MacLeod, Iain Grant, Ruairidh Morrison, Shaun Hedley, Scott Macleod, Scott MacDonald, Martin Bruce (captain), Mark Mortimer, Chris MacLennan, Stuart MacSween, Willie Cowie, Jordan Murchison, subs, Ewen Forrest, Calum Gibb, Magnus Burd
