Not A Camanachd Cup Final To Be Proud Of Says President. | |
01 November 2008 Camanachd Association President Duncan Cameron told last week's club / member meeting in Kyle that the 2008 Camanachd Cup Final was "not a game we could be particularly proud of." Mr Cameron was responding to a question from the floor as to whether the clash between shinty giants Fort William and Kingussie, and in particular the rough treatment dished out to Kingussie's Ronald Ross, was a good example to younger players and a good advert for shinty to the large crowd and television audience. Cameron said that the chairman of sportscotland asked him during the final if "there were any rules in this game?" Cameron spoke of the possibilty of introducing larger penalty areas as has happened in the Celtic Society Cup. "Initially this change led to many penalty awards," he said "but defenders soon realised that they had to adjust their game and rough challenges in the vicinty of each goal were quickly eliminated."
